The Rolling Stones are 80 and they have a new album coming out. Dolly Parton was inducted into the Rock N Roll HoF last year, graciously accepted, but didn't think she'd earned it being part of the rock n roll scene. So, to make herself feel better, she recorded a new album that's all rock and mostly collaborative songs with the original artist. It includes a version of "Let It Be" that features Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, with special guitar parts from Peter Frampton and Mick Fleetwood. What I've heard of the Stones album sounds pretty average, and Dolly's stuff is okay. I love some Foo, but I thought "But Here We Are" was below average. Can we please, get some new rock that is worth something? Marcus King's "Young Blood" is about the only thing I've enjoyed this year.
I'm finding it harder and harder to find new music that I like. More and more I'm just revisiting old groups/albums that I haven't listened to in a long time.
I definitely don't find it on terrestrial radio. Usually youtube rabbit holes. I want my country full of sorrow and woe, my rock true and hard, and my rap from motherfuckers that have the dictionary memorized.
I don't think this is much of Broadway musicals crowd . . . however, if you've ever enjoyed any of the Tiny Desk videos, this one is great. Stephen Schwartz actually plays and gives a little of the nerdy music stuff behind some of the songs.
Bahamas new album, Bootcut, is pretty good. Canadian indie artist Afie Jurvanen gets his full country on. I say "Country" - it's like Jimmy Buffett, JJ Cale and George Strait's music had a baby. This song is a great hammock jam, and probably the least country on the album.
It’s cool, but I would just like to say that Jeff Lynne has one of the most noticeable sonic footprints in the production world. Dude started the track in the 90’s and even with Giles Martin taking over, it’s an ELO song.
I’ll add, the AI cleanup for John’s voice is amazing. I kinda wish they’d go back and use it for his vocal tracks on “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love.”
