Recent artists on my lastfm: Because of ghosts Bark Psychosis Bardo Pond Larval Lanterna Labradford (highly recommended, beautiful ambient/post rock tunes) A nice mixture of indie rock, noise, ambient and post rock. Those genres, plus shoe gazing, make up 60+ GB out of my 95 GBs of music.
I'm curious if anyone is going to go see glassjaw on the third leg of the Brand New tour this winter. The closest they'll come to me is Philly, which is a bit far to go during the school year, but I would LOVE to go see them. Brand New's "Daisy" is a bit too distant to wrap my brain around right now, but it should be a kickass tour.
Xaphoon Jones Mixtape If you like Kids then Xaphoon Jones has a couple of different mixes of MGMT and Bob Marley and stuff. I have been listening to some of his stuff for a while. Xaphoon Jones - Testify is good too ( Radiohead and Kanye West)
I've been in the mood for a lot of Robin Thicke and Matthew Santos recently. The things this man can do with just his voice, his guitar and a drummer are amazing.
Yes. Hell of a band. Colors was incredible, but I haven't followed them for a while. Turns out the new album comes out next week. That's my album of the year so far. It took a lot of listens to get used to, but once it clicked I was hooked. Fucking great band. And the studio videos they released were pretty cool too:
Brand New and Glassjaw are two of my all-time favourite bands and I've already grabbed tickets to their Toronto show Really I'll be happy if I get Tip Your Bartender out of Glassjaw and..really anything out of Brand New
My Brightest Diamond First heard her a couple years ago, and this girl can sing. I guess you'd call it indie rock, but I think she'd be better explained with "she's got a purty voice." (If you're impatient, it get's spectacular around 3:30) I was directly next to the camera when this was recorded. Speechless.
Luna, a dream pop indie band from the mid 90s. Chilled out music with soothing vocals. Mahogany, a spacey band with ambient undertones and beautiful female vocals.
That is Shara Worden who has one of the best voices in music today. Here she is singing with the Decemberists (comes in at 1:45). She's the member of the Decemberists who owns it on this song. You can find her pretty much any week night at any number of karaoke bars in Alphabet City or the Lower East Side when her band isn't playing. She simply loves to sing.
Someone else posted a link for a song on this site, but I would like to point out the site in general as a great place to find new music. It's called HypeMachine. It basically follows a bunch of different music blogs, and collects all the different songs people blogged about. Users then vote on songs to determine what's worth listening to. Most of the music posted is electronic, mashup, or indie, so if you are into that kind of stuff, HypeMachine is good for finding songs that you probably would have missed. To give you something to listen to right now, here's one of the songs I found using that site. It's a remix of MGMT's "Kids" done by Philly hip-hop group Chiddy Bang.
Them Crooked Vultures finally release a full studio song (Album Nov 17th too...). http://www.youtube.com/user/themcrookedvultures#p/a
I am incredibly excited for Them Crooked Vultures. Thanks for posting that. Along those lines, I recently found some really cool b-sides and covers by Queens of the Stone Age. White Wedding, Goin' Out West, and some others. You can probably find the albums online somewhere labeled as B-sides and Rarities I and II and a live one as well.
Been listening to Silversun Pickups a lot. Am I a total nerd for finding out a band through Rock Band?
Maura Davis gives Hayley Williams a run for her money in the "excessively strong female vocalist" category.
Tortoise - instrumental, but hard to explain, in regards to genre Tom Waits - my hero, basically A silver mount zion - classical music meets rock, with sound clips. From the members of Godspeed you black emperor!. You can't argue with funk. The Budos Band, big horns with afro rhythm feel. This song needs to be in a Kung-fu movie: Budos Band-Scorpion Classic: Soul Searchers - Blow Your Whistle Funky lovin' is all I understand: Eruption - Funky Lover If anyone's digging this, feel free to PM me for more recommends. Or if you know something else I might like.
Buddy of mine turned me on to this bad, they are great for laid back drinking on a weekend. The Low Life:
