Is it just me, or are Death From Above 1979 severely slept on? Crazy dance-thrash-punk band out of Canada, released one album before breaking up. One of the two members of this band went on to form MSTRKRFT.

Tegan and Sara's new album (Sainthood) just came out last week. I love them. Here is their first video (Hell) from this album:

Side note - They are fucking hilarious. Here are the DVD Extras from their last album The Con.

Best song from that Kings of Leon album...

I'd like to ask that some of you guys post your Favorited music YouTube videos, whether live or music videos or covers.

Here's some of what I've saved:

Fleetwood Mac - "Go Your Own Way" [Live - The Mirage Tour '82]
You can't find a bad version of this online even though the band was strung out most of the time. Lindsey Buckingham is drunk as a skunk and look at their drummer in this video and tell me he isn't on some crazy drug we've never heard of. Incredible extended guitar solo as well. Stevie Nicks was sexy as fuck by the way.

They had two EPs on top of "You're a Woman, I'm a Machine", A well as a dance remix album of their songs (kind of a lead up to MSTRKRFT)

Also, Sebastian Grainger (the drummer) made a band after DFA called Sebastien Grainger and The Mountains

There's lots of good indie music coming out of Canada:
    Godspeed You! Black Emperor
    Sunset Rubdown
    Broken Social Scene
    Rock Plaza Central
    Arcade Fire

    Etc

I really don't think Arcade Fire or Broken Social Scene count as indie anymore pal. Arcade Fire was on the cover of Time like two years go.

The new album from The Swell Season has come out. "Strict Joy" is the title, and if you aren't familiar with the band I suggest you check out some of their work. If you saw the movie Once, The Swell season is comprised of the two main characters in that movie Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. They are phenomenal.

This is one of the songs off the new album, "In These Arms"

I've become obsessed with a few electronic albums as of late, and these songs come straight to mind:
Phonat: Learn to Recycle. I love reggae, and this is an interesting retake of it. I actually think Phonat is one of my favorite musicians I've come across this year.

Passion Pit: Sleepyhead. I don't know how to describe it, more along the lines of MGMT and Empire of the Sun, but less repetitive.

Discovery: Osaka Loop Line. I guess if I had to describe them, I would say they sound like the love child of Modest Mouse and Fischerspooner, although both are inadequate.

For all those who are into their IDM and electronica here's my picks of the week

    Modeselektor:

    and

    Moderat

Moderat's self titled album is fantastic, bit reminiscent of Boards Of Canada. Definitely worth giving a go if you like your IDM.

And whoever recommended The Swell Season, thanks. It's bloody amazing!

I meant to use "indie" more as a style or genre than as actual independent music, since the term's thrown around pretty liberally anyway.

In other news... Messy garage rock (with hilariously weird video)

    The Hives- Return the Favour
I missed them the first time around, but they are now my go-to band for party music. Fast paced, High Energy Awesomeness.

The Duke Spirit- Dog Roses (Acoustic)
I first heard about them on the old board. Simple music done very well with a nice soulful edge.

I am so happy to see this thread up and running again. The last one turned me on to a number of new bands that I had never heard but quickly became some of my favorites.

    THIEVERY CORPORATION
A muti-faceted group incorporating a bit of dub, acid jazz, reggae, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Brazilian into a cohesive sound with a somewhat lounge twist. They have around five different singers, three piece brass section, two percussionists, two DJs, a bassist and a guitar player. The guitar player also plays a sitar for many of their songs (badass).

I saw them twice in Chicago this year and once down here in Tampa. Each show was different and better than the one before.

    Website

They will also be featured on Current TV's Embedded tomorrow night at 11pm.

    Helios - Halving the Compass

This is a very relaxing song.

If you're from Texas you've probably heard of Bob Schneider, but most people outside of the state have never heard of him. I think he's the shit. Probably the most diverse artist I've ever known.

Some awesome websites for music lovers:

http://www.lastfm.com - Keeps track of the music you listen to, and recommends new music, based on what you already listen to. I haven't found a site that does this better than lastfm. Plus the charts are awesome for a stat freak such as myself. You can compare your music compatibility with friends and strangers alike. My lastfm page is http://www.lastfm.com/user/carl2020

http://www.allmusic.com - Awesome site to learn about new bands and singers. Has a "similar artists" portion too, and great artist history sections for many bands, both popular and even obscure.

http://www.normalisr.com/ -If you like lastfm, and are a stats freak...here you go!

I realize that this style of music isn't up everyones alley, but I just recently found these two albums, and I haven't been able to put them down for the past 2 weeks.

Im a fan of gangster rap (no, I'm not a gangster, nor a rapper, nor am I black, nor in the hood, nor do I think I am any of those things... I am not a wigger in any way shape or form), but most of the "gangster rap" out there is just studio-gangsters like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, are a bunch of wannabes... not that their music isn't good, I love Snoop Dogg's music, but he just isn't a real crip, no matter how you look at it.

This is Bangin on Wax... an album made by some of the top leaders of both the Bloods and Crips gangs, coming together in Compton back in 1993-1994 right after the peace treaty. These are REAL gangsters, real motherfuckers that have put in work and done dirt. This is a totally different flavor of gangster rap than what most people are used to.
