This is one of my favorite songs. It was even on the beginning of and episode of Grey's Anatomy. Brian (aka BC Camplight) is a friend of my sister and we try to see him as often as we can because he puts on a pretty good show and all of his music is catchy. Plus, he always does some awesome covers at the end and it's always fun to see who he's gonna do. My favorite so far - Huey Lewis. Another good one.
I just bought and downloaded "The GIVE Project" from GIVEseattle.org. It's 30 tracks from some absolutely phenomenal artists from Seattle. It's only $7, and all proceeds go to local charities. Tons of great hiphop and local rock, I highly recommend it!
McLusky: Lightsaber Cocksucking Blues This has been playing on constant repeat while I'm baking cookies for my youngest daughter's bake sale.
This is a live performance by Stoney LaRue and Cody Canada (Cross Canadian Ragweed) of one of my favorite songs "Hope You Make It". It was written by Randy Crouch, and was featured and performed by Crouch himself as the last track on Jason Boland's "Somewhere in the Middle" album.
I posted this on the old board; Florence and the Machine Kiss with a Fist and You've got the love Unfortunately, I cannot embed the videos'
Stumbled upon this fantastic cover of "the district sleeps alone tonight" by the Postal Service. If you're a fan of Frank Turner (can't recommend enough "Love, Ire and Song", its an amazing album) or The Postal Service you should love this.
Because I'm a huge nerd, just bought the Star Trek Blu-ray, and really liked this song.... Whenever I hear this song, I now think of a hero triumphing in a kick ass sci-fi battle scene.
Although they were mentioned near the beginning. I'll second Between the Buried and Me as well as Every Time I Die. Both are really good. A band I suggest for people who like metal/metalcore would be August Burns Red. Also, Protest The Hero is pretty badass.
Here's a great cover of T.I.'s "Whatever You Like" by Anya Marina. Anya's got a great voice, and does the song in that sexy, raspy, half-whisper way that makes you want to do terrible things to her.
Recently I've been listening to Sam Adams, I guess he's a rapper from the Boston area and he's got some pretty good stuff. Plus he's from Boston so he automatically kicks ass. This is his remix of "I Love College" by Asher Roth: Here's another song of his:
One of the awesomest metal bands to come out of Canada, Rammer. One of my favourite songs of theirs: Dataslut "she's a bitch she's a bitch she's a digital bitch"
I just posted about them on the "What I'm listening to right now" thread, but I'm gonna go ahead and say it again here - everybody needs to drop what you're doing and listen to the album - the whole album - "Ragin, Full-on" by fIREHOSE. It's tough to find any of their music on youtube, but they are phenomenal, and every single song on that album is great. It's two of the guys from The Minutemen (who did 'Corona,' popularly known as the Jackass theme song), and their music is all over the place punk-rock-jazz-funk-folk and it is glorious and beautiful and everyone should listen to them.
Here's something you may not have seen: Visual Kei, the biggest music scene in Japan. It's a cross between super-flashy hair metal and the hardest, heaviest thrash you can imagine. No english, but just listen to the band Sex Machineguns absolutely tear it. Their drummer is insanely talented (start at 0:45):
Some YouTube favorites of mine: Rilo Kiley - Pictures of Success [Live '02] This is perhaps my favorite Rilo Kiley song ever. I was unaware of it for awhile even though I was a huge fan of the band. I saw them play in San Francisco two years back, and they busted this song out for the first time live in years as we were told. It was an incredible performance. About on par with this one. Dolores O'Riordan [of The Cranberries] - Go Your Own Way [Fleetwood Mac cover] This is an excellent cover by the amazingly vocally talented lead singer from The Cranberries. It doesn't hurt that this is far and away my favorite FM song. Phoenix - 1901 [Acoustic] This was my song of the summer, I blew this song up from the moment I picked up their most recent album. This is an awesome acoustic version that uses an iPhone to provide some of their ambience. REM - Let Me In [Acoustic] This is probably my favorite REM song even before I found out it was written by Michael Stipe about Kurt Cobain and how he really thinks he could have done something to keep Kurt from killing himself. On this song, everyone plays an instrument they don't usually play, so it adds a little bit of oddness to it, but its a very beautiful song. Chris Cornell - Sunshower [Live] My favorite solo Cornell song, never saw this on an album anywhere. Cornell may be my favorite male vocalist of the past 15 years.
This song blew me away the first time I heard it. It's on the Euphoria Morning morning ablum as one of the Japanese bonus tracks.
Dax Riggs. One of my favorite musicians. Very obscure. I don't think this song is well-known even to his die-hard fans. Another one off one of his albums, "We Sing of Blood or Love"
I've been on Papadosio for a while now. For the most part, they're jam band, but they incorporate a lot of electronica, hip hop, jazz (song structure, not instrumentation), and even some of the guitar work reminds me of Allman Brothers. Basically, if you're white, 18-30, and have dreadlocks, you'll like them.
