I did a search and didn't find anything posted about these guys. Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights. http://www.jonathantylermusic.com <-has their music video on the main page, at least for now I know the bass player, Nick, through one of my car clubs. I was stuck in MS for work a couple weeks ago, and they were opening for ZZ Top in Tupelo, so I drove up to check them out. I've gotta say that I was blown away. Their energy at a live show is better than most bands I've seen. The did one cover song, Honkey Tonk Women by the Rolling Stones, and they nailed it. They changed it up a little and made it their own, and it was amazing. There are some youtube videos of them playing that song live, but they all suck compared to hearing it live. I enjoyed watching them play their set more than I've enjoyed watching any band live in a really long time. Well, except for ZZ Top, they rocked the last half of their set. They're a rock 'n roll band, pure and simple. They obviously have some southern/soul/r&B influences, and you can hear it in their songs. They have a lot of talent, and they're just really cool, down-to-earth guys. They love playing music, they have a good time on stage, and they use that to get the audience going as well. I've never heard so many rednecks say "damn, I never heard of them, but those boys can play." Their album "Pardon Me" is available on iTunes, and they're on tour with ZZ Top, if they come near you it's a great show, well worth the price.
Similarly, a guy named Alex Kresovich made a Goldeneye mashup that's just as good, if not better that Team Teamwork's stuff. http://goldnfly007.blogspot.com/
So this is a rad cover of a Wilco song, by A Chicago soul-like band. It's way more upbeat and danceable than the original, and there lead singer oozes charisma. Also, He facepalms two girls partway through the song.
Everyone need to get the New Black Keys Album: Brother, its fucking awesome. I also recommend BlakRoc. Just Check them out, any description I could post wouldn't do them Justice.
Really REALLY enjoying this band I just got into called The Mother Hips. I went and saw Joseph Arthur twice in January and got chatty with the guy that does his live bootlegs on Arthur's site. This guy recommended this band to me and I just now started getting into it. Fucking great sound.
Caught a rerun of Austin City Limits and found out about this band called Okkervile River. Pretty literate like a lot of indie bands, but their energy live was out of this world. Austin City Limits concert(real concert, not te show)
Should have mentioned this before, but did anyone happend to attend OSHEAGA 2010 this past weekend in Montreal? Arcade Fire was the headliner, and holy fuck they put on a great one. If you went let me know what you thought.
The Smashing Pumpkins are recording 44 new tracks for their upcoming CD and have been posting the songs as they're completed to download for free on their website.
Maroon 5 is a guilty pleasure of mine. They came out with a new album yesterday called Hands All Over. You should check it out. Much ass it kicks, yes.
Really grooving on this right now: Yes, Biggie's 'Hypnotize' samples this, but this one is sooooo much better and haunting in places.
Underground Hip-Hop Click here for TheYacz' underground hip-hop youtube channel TheYacz has over 2,000 youtube videos of all underground hip-hop(my favorites are Hitfarmers and Brawdcast). Die Antwoord, a South African rap group I just came across. They have a really strange appearance (maybe it's a South African thing, who knows), but they have some really good songs, and for looking like an anorexic neo-Nazi, their lead singer Ninja can flow surprisingly well. Also, their DJ puts out some really sick beats.
This is pretty much shameful self promotion.. but my content is fucking good so it's win win. Let me know if you disagree.
Making what I thought would turn into a 90's rock playlist rapidly led to me rediscovering my pre-1970 hard rock collection which I haven't listened to for too long. God damn this stuff is good. Quintessential rock music. Spoiler
I've watched "StepBrothers" about 15 times, and I can't get this song that plays over the end credits out of my head:
