New 311 album is quite good. Only 8 songs but if it leaves you wanting more, than it did it's job. Always thought 311 was a really underrated band.
I've been hearing the new Red Hot Chili Peppers single(Raindance Maggie) on the radio and it's kinda growing on me a little. Catchy with a good funk to it, which is par for the course. Anyone have any news on what the rest the album should be like? Stadium Arcadium is a tough album to live up to simply because of the quality of tracks and that its a double. I really hope this isn't a let down.
Yoko Kanno (and her band the Seatbelts) is fucking fantastic. This is the lady who created the soundtrack for Cowboy Bebop, one of my favorite anime. Jazzy, funky, rock influences, organs, choral arrangements, this has got everything.
Donald Glover (A.K.A. Childish Gambino) has a new album out soon, and if these old songs of his are any indication, it's gonna kick ass. Also, his site put me on to this guy Frank Ocean. This is one of the coolest songs I've heard in a long time.
Again with Childish Gambino, but this track is something I would burn to CD and listen to in my car. 1st half is Adele with a different beat, but second half, Glover rocks the shit. I'd advise listening to the whole thing just to get the feel of the contrast between the two...
Saw these guys Friday night to officially release their album. Just loud rock... as if Dinosaur Jr came from Arkansas. Five guys that have been on the scene for a while. One of the guitarists played for Green Day on tour for a while I think. Anyways, I kinda dig it right now. Nothing great, but a solid effort. I was waiting for the subway this morning and there was a performer in the station playing some old covers on his guitar. He played a song that I really liked, but being in the subway, I couldn't hear it very clearly. I know it has been a pretty popular song in the past, I am thinking 70's - 80's. It has what I would describe as a sad melody on the guitar. It kind of reminded me of "Piano Man" by Billy Joel, melody wise. The hook was something like "OOOOOHHH I can never give up, I can never look back" or something similar. It was the long drawn out "ooh" that really stands out, it was held for 1-2 seconds. I also caught enough to know it was about a girl/broken relationship. I wish I could be more descriptive, but it was pretty noisy. I know this is a long shot, but any help would be appreciated.
I love everything about Lana Del Rey. Very emotive songwriting, hot girl, and the broad can sing. Say you'll remember.
Are there any knowledgeable jazz aficionados on TIB? I'm looking to explore the jazz trio sounds of piano, drums and bass. Thanks in advance.
I cannot stop listening to this song, I was never a huge fan of Florence + the Machine, just never stayed on my radar long after admitting Dog Days are Over was quite catchy, but this track is just HUGE. I mean vocal insanity. There was a live video floating around that she just kills as well. Damn, just damn.
Lately, I've been enjoying some music I picked up when I was at Amoeba Records in San Francisco. A little Kraftwerk A little Roxy Music Some Procol Harum - Interesting what gems you can find when purchasing a slightly rarer foreign import The Move, basically the precursor to Electric Light Orchestra And some Yazoo And to finish off, some Rush, of course
