All of these dog pictures are awesome, but what this place needs are more farm animal pictures! My 15 month old and our chickens (l-r Hilda, Maude, Ruth, Hazel, Gracie, Ethel & Myrtle) My 3 year old and Mindy - my father-in-law's horse (she has a sister named Mandy) A random cow at my in-laws house.
It's been a while since I've put a photo of The Admiral up here. So here's a picture of Reggie snoozing on the sofa and dreaming. (We both have the same dreams.)
I'd put this in the help-thread, but I don't know if any dog lovers will see it or respond to it there. I just bought Pepper an e-collar. I was up camping this weekend and while she was swimming I noticed another dog on the beach who was off her leash. (The collars are water proof.) The dog was way too well trained and obedient for me not to take notice. I asked if she was wearing a remote collar and sure enough, she was. He said it was the best purchase he's ever made and that it completely changed the dog. He also mentioned that his best friend has a three year old male Doberman who was the most stubborn and untrainable dog he'd ever seen - and that the remote collar took care of his training as well. I've done a lot of research on e-collars but never had the nuts to buy one because I hadn't had a chance to speak to someone first-hand who has had any experience with them. This weekend, that changed. Pepper is a great dog but is often stubborn beyond what I can handle. On her leash, she is protective and sometimes lashes out at other dogs. Off her leash she is generally pretty well behaved, but often refuses to listen to "come" and "stay" commands. I am hoping the e-collar will help with that. Does anyone here have an experience with remote dog collar training? I'd like to hear about if and how they've helped others.
There is a Mastador in the TiB family, and now there is a Bassador. Please say hello to Chester! Please excuse the harness, we have a bit of a marking issue so the prescribed method from the guy who runs the boarding place where my parents take their beagle is to have him attached to me via leash/harness for 3 weeks. I was skeptical and it's driving me nuts but it works. And in case you missed the comically long body and teeny little legs: This is a dog with a huge amount of potential. He's already a total lovemuffin (will climb into your lap at any opportunity), much smarter than at least the basset side would have you believe, and plays very well with other dogs (I am so proud, he passed his evaluation at the place we're going to board him with flying colors). If you have any tips on crating dogs and letting them off leash, I am all ears!
I cannot stress this enough: Watch the DVD that comes with the collar. Do NOT do what I did, which was hook up the e-fence, slap the collar on the dog and then entice him over to the boundary so that he could see that he shouldn't cross that line. It took weeks to unlearn his fear of the backyard after just three shocks.
A tragedy happened today, folks. My terrier rolled in not one but TWO different kinds of burrs. They were so thick on him that his eyes were glued shut and his ears were pinned to his head. So bad, in fact, that the groomer (who was kind enough to take him today on zero notice) had to shave him bald. HE HAS NO MOHAWK!!! THE HORROR!!! Oh, and Abraham rolled in something dead, so yay for shelling out $100 at Petsmart.
Newest member of the family, adopted from the local animal shelter. She is some kind of beagle mix and is terrified of EVERYTHING. We have thus named her, ironically, Samus. Shocking, I know.
I will be moving in with Hobie soon. He is a big lovable idiot and very obedient. He was adopted a few years ago and is believed to be a German Shepherd/Akita mix. We're gonna be buddies.
In case anyone wants their day brightened: <a class="postlink" href="http://video.ca.msn.com/watch/video/soldier-welcomed-home-by-huge-dog/1gl6sefwo?from=en-ca-hpquad" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://video.ca.msn.com/watch/video/sol ... -ca-hpquad</a>
I was gone for 10 months and my mom brought my dog to the airport. My she barely noticed, fucking bitch:
Gave Reggie a new bone. Keeps running around the house crying, trying to find a suitable hiding spot. He got very upset when he realized his bed isn't made out of dirt that he can dig up. Also note the tongue sticking out the side of his mouth.
My roommate took this photo the other morning at breakfast... There is nothing more pathetic than this dog.
