So, I mentioned a while back that we were trying to adopt a seven year old weimaraner.. well, we did. She is a counter surfer, cabinet opener, but a sweetie. She *is* trainable on getting into stuff, and doesn't beg, is housebroken with no need to crate. And already ruling the house.
Avett goes where he pleases. Including stepping on your nuts to wake you up. That being said, it is hard to be mad at the little bastard, no matter how much he destroys our stuff.
So we decided we really, really love Tonka's Mastiff traits, so we applied to get a full Mastiff puppy from a super selective breeder. We should be getting a puppy next spring/summer. This is the Dad:
Hard to see it, but Tonka has his Halloween bandana on. Tonight marks one year that we've had him. Other than his two unhealthy obsessions of the cats and our local chipmunks, he's an awesome dog.
Oh man. I was just lamenting that the pet thread hasn't been updated in a while, and was going to do my part to help it out when I saw Mya's doggy. Booshaboo! I'm still going to post pictures of my cat, though: Here is Miro trying to hide: Here is Miro pretending he's beer:
Few more fish in there these days. It's nice coming home, sitting on the couch with a beer and watching the little bastards chase each other around.
Introducing......Charlie Kelly! I picked him up from the pound yesterday afternoon. He's a year old and he's a rambunctious goof that likes to fall off couches and smack his head on doors and walls. He looks like he's an Irish Terrier/Golden Retriever mix, but I'm not positive yet. Hopefully the visit to the vet this week will help me clear some of that up...
Our resident shithead brought us home a gift yesterday when he bolted out of the house. He was so excited that he did a good job. The chicken lost a few feathers, and the owner said she would probably be too scared to lay an egg for a day or two, but otherwise would be fine and recover from the situation.
Last week I was on my floor stretching my back and along came Quint, who decided a stretch would be lovely and then a face to face staring contest would follow. Which I won, by the way, and was rewarded with multiple nose kisses. I'm going to miss that cat. 2007 - Nov 4, 2011.
Does anyone want to see more pictures of my cat? What? EVERYONE wants to see more pictures of my cat? Okay!
This is Abraham's personal version of heaven. The only thing missing, for him, is me sitting in the snow beside him. At least one of us is happy with this weather.
So, Sadie loves carrying around things. Be it a shoe (she loves my fuzzy slippers, thanks for the drool, honest!), or one of her numerous stuffed toys. She doesn't chew things up, just carries them around. She's so tired with people being around due to the holiday that last night she came into my room (she sleeps with me most nights) when I went to bed, hopped up on the bed, hopped back down. Went & got "Dog", her big stuffed dog, hopped back up on the bed, dropped Dog, went & slept on the "dog bed" where she gets the whole bed. So instead of her, I had a drool soaked stuffed animal. Thanks hon!
Hey everyone. Thought I'd pass on some info that might help you (or a dog somewhere in the world). My big guy, Abraham, donated blood last week. That's right...dogs can donate blood. http://www.mahta.ca/canadian_animal_blood_bank.aspx I believe the head office of the Canadian chapter is in Manitoba, but you can check with your local veterinarian to find out if you can donate as well. Dogs need blood products for the same reason people do: traumatic injury, cancer treatment, plasma, etc. Personally, I can't ever donate blood because I've had malaria. My dog gives in a way I can't. You can view the requirements, but in a nutshell the dog must be healthy, not on medication, have a good temperament and be over 50lbs. Before you start thinking it's only for charity, there are perks, too: - All blood donations receive a complete blood workup. So, at no cost to you, your dog gets tested for everything every time he donates. - If your dog ever needs blood he receives the amount he's donated for free. - He gets cookies and no less than three vets and/or vet techs scratching his tummy and ears while the procedure happens. It's totally painless, and (Abraham, at least) thinks it's the best thing ever. Something to consider. Holidays are coming up, and there are many ways to give. Here's some cute dog pics now.
