This morning, my grandmother's Siamese, Bubba, went to the Big Scratching Post in the Sky. I'm not normally one for cats, but he was a solid exception. If he was a person, I'd tell you that he didn't take shit from anyone in his entire life. Since he's a Siamese, I suppose that goes without saying. Coolest cat ever. He was 20, and went out purring. Boss.
My German named dog(Otto) threw a Jewish historical fiction novel into my fireplace while I was out today and also destroyed a good bit of it. I think he's onto me.
I'm puppy sitting this little fart box for a week. http://imgur.com/e3Ootlk Hes cuddling with one of the frat boy neighbors in this pic.
We have visitors and Buck really wanted to stay in their kennel with them. Spoiler Miles is a goofy dumb pitbull pix and Gunner is a miniature dachshund. They play together well but Gunner is a master at starting trouble between Buck and Miles and running away. Buck's new favorite thing is playing in the big brush pile courtesy of a storm Friday night. Spoiler
We're trying to get Buddy accustomed to the travel kennel. I don't want to shove him into a box when it is time to fly, whenever that ends up being. We bought his kennel a couple weeks ago and put his water dish in there (he often times skips eating but he drinks a shitton of water every day) to get him to go in there. Sometimes I'll look over and see a doggy butt. It's kinda cute.
Gryff got a new bone, which he'll soon outgrow. He's probably about 45 lbs at 3.5 months. Likely on his way to 120+ from all accounts.
I went to Home Depot and found 50' of glow in the dark rope. Enough for a 2' long collar and a 4' long leash. Thanks to Google for the how-to on making both. 18 months old, 150 pounds or so.
So I'm totally not a cat person, never had one, never wanted one, but there was a stray on the farm that we really took a liking to so we took it in. I realize cats sleep A LOT, but yesterday (the day after we took her in) she literally slept all day, only getting up to eat and go to the bathroom, absolutely zero exploring. I'd write it off if we just got her and that's just how she was, but when we first took her in she was very active. My guess is that she's finally relaxed and catching up on all the sleep she wasn't getting when she was outside and on high alert all the time, plus she has worms (which we're going to take care of) and a farm hand just took her to get vaccines the other day. Does a full day of being shut down sound weird to anyone? For reference I'm pretty certain she's comfortable, she doesn't hide, doesn't try to run out the door when it's open, likes to cuddle, likes to be pet and had no problem eating right away.
My cat has lived with us in this place for years and he sleeps for 8 hours at a clip, grabs a bite to eat, lays in the window when the afternoon sun comes through for a couple hours, chases a milk twisty for a few minutes, begs for dinner, eats dinner, goes back to the window until the sun is gone, lays on the couch with us while we watch TV, then lays in bed with us when we go to sleep. And repeat. He's currently sleeping inside of my fiance's duffle bag--where he's been since 6:00 this morning. He's healthy as can be, by the way. tl;dr...cats are fucking lazy and sleep a lot. Unless you see any major issues that would lead you to believe that there are health problems, the cat is just doing cat stuff. Damn hard life, huh?
This person did a 10-hour time lapse of what his cats do all day. I don't think you have any worries.
I should have been more specific, the cat was like a hungover college freshman when she slept all day, but then she came back to moving around a little more so I'm not worried. The vet is spaying her today so I'm sure she'll piss all over our furniture when we get her back.
For people who have flown with a dog, can I get some advice on proper kennel size? I got one with a that fits up to 70lbs of dog. Buddy is about 65lbs. I thought it was juuuuust right until I attached the plastic food cups to the front door and now it doesn't seem right. The cups sort of hang in overlap with his paws underneath. He can stand up (his head isn't completely upright, he droops it a little) and can turn around and lay down like all the guides say. I am just worried that someone at the airport is going to turn us away at the last minute. Does he look too cramped?
