So I know I've been a posting a lot here, but apparently my family has been picking up some rescues lately, there are worse things. Here's a photo I took of Chico today after we got to hang out a bit. Great dog, just wants to be happy. I have nothing but great things to say about him. Spoiler
Not my pooch but I can't resist... This border collie pup will be herding cows on my uncles' dairy farm soon.
^ I'm pretty sure that border collie is the dog version of David Beckham. We had our dog/cat test on Saturday. Brought the neighbor's dog over to interact with the cats. Lola was pretty pissed, but she just resorted to hissing and staring daggers. The dog figured out pretty quickly to give her a wide berth and that seemed to work. The younger cat, Leia, just ran away and hid. That works for me too. I am betting that when we do get a dog, Leia will eventually be best buds with it. We just have to make sure that whatever dog we get has the same sense that the neighbor dog does - just give Lola her space. Now we just have to wait until a few other tasks are taken care of and we can get a dog!
the pup is growing. we are still working on come, kennel, and sit. slow and steady will hopefully make him trained as well as my last one. this picture has him at 3 months old.
I've been working with Bruce (boykin spaniel pup) quite a bit lately. We're still working on obedience and show tricks until he hits 5-6 months and I'll start training him to retrieve. He's been picking these small tricks in about 2-3 sessions (5 minutes or so each). I started to film his progress and uploaded them to my YouTube. If y'all are interested in the short videos of his progress I included his latest of high five below.
Saturday was a long and very stressful day, culminating in me having a cold. We adopted a dog, but because of my rundown state it was hard for me to feel enthusiastic. Same yesterday, I was feeling crappy and stressed. I'll get over my cold, though, and the stress level will reduce once we've integrated her into the household and routine. In the meantime, here she is: Spoiler The black on her ears and nose with the rest of her white reminds me of Snoopy. Or Frankenweenie.
A couple of photos of my dogs, the black and white one is Maximus, a male West Siberian Laika/English Shepherd mix, the red and gold one is Chinook, a female Labrador Retriever/Siberian Husky and last but not least Fern the puppy, a female cross between a Rottweiler and a Siberian Husky. They're great dogs. Excellent varmint hunters (and eaters), and I can honestly say they're better mousers and ratters than my cat.
So my sister who just got married about a month ago had been talking about getting a dog with her now-husband for a long time. She wanted a little lap dog and he wanted a big dog. Guess who won... That's Mila, a tiny little Shit-Poo mix. Weighs less than 5 lbs (for now) and is mostly fluff. I can confirm she is as cute in person too.
Couple of friend's dogs. My friend Erin's pack. She runs a dog-walking, boarding, and training business. My friend David and his wolfdog Raven at seven months on Lake Champlain. Raven now, at seven. Nixe, my frien Bryn's East German Shepherd. These pictures just remind me I need a better camera.
In response to having her staples taken out by me she decided she is going to start standing on tables.
I'm beginning to teach Bruce how to heel. He picked it up much quicker than I expected and really surprised me today. I taught him to come around behind me to heel and today he followed me as I rotated and stayed in the heel position. I was pumped when he did it since it was unexpected. He continues to surprise me with how smart of a pup he is. In the video he's 4.5 months and will start a more structured training soon. Sorry for the vertical video. I forgot to rotate the camera and realized after I filmed that it was in the wrong orientation.
