Anyone know of any remedies for an abrasion on a dog toe? Otto has been licking his paw lately and when I looked at it, all the hair in between the toe was gone and it was kind of tender. Here's a mediocre picture. I think he might have gotten a small cut or something.

Looks like he is developing a hot spot there. It just needs to dry out which means he needs to stop licking it. You can probably get away with the cone of shame to get him to stop long enough for it to heal and then just keep an eye on it.

The only caveat is that the vet might need to shave the area so that the moisture of the wound doesn't get stuck in his hair. we just went through this with our dog and it was amazing how much better it looked 48 hours later after the shaving and the fact she couldn't fuck with the spot anymore.

Ok that's kind of what I was wondering. When I examine it, it looks like there's a small bite or something. When I put some peroxide on it, it really fizzed up.

I had to say good bye to this guy today after almost 14 years together. All dogs go to heaven, I know he'll be happy there.

This is pretty common and he could have started the licking for any number of reasons. Go get some Banixx Wound Spray - it's antibacterial, antifungal, inexpensive and it just handy to have around anyway. I'd apply it 2-4 times a day and try to keep him from licking it. (Excessive licking can turn into a lick granuloma and those are just unpleasant and very hard to get rid of.)

Buddy was doing the same thing with his tail. I coned him at night and it went away.

The new cat (whom I've named Canso, after the water bombers that my dad used to fly) is settling in.

Many hours of fair weather touring outside lately and he still comes back and acts like he owns the place. No "lost cat" posters or replies to my "found cat" posters.

I think it's somewhat official now.

I am obsessed with this thing I found randomly called Cleverpet. It's kind of like Bopit for dogs and it spits out treats when they solve a puzzle. Piggy is extremely playful and smart (like to the point that it gets her in trouble pretty often) and incredibly food motivated so I want this for her...but it is expensive as hell. Anyone else keeping an eye on this product? Anything similar on the market? I haven't been able to find anything like it.

PS, they are giving one away, so if you want to be nice and give me a referral...

Friend's dog, West Siberian Laika Flint, and his reaction to snow falling off of a tree. He's pissed off only because he thinks it *might* be a squirrel or a rabbit or a pheasant and wants to either retrieve it shot to his owner or kill it himself. Special guest appearance by Conker the Shiba Inu.

One of our close neighbors just adopted a little puppy. Roger is a lab-something mix, nobody is sure but it doesn't matter because he is so sweet. They wanted a pup that was more rugged for their trips to northern Minnesota since the dog they got a few years ago isn't, and I think he will do just fine.

Here's Pumpkin and Roger. Pumpkin is a cute mix but not much of an outside dog. They've been together for a week now and are already napping snuggled together (awww!).

Anyone else's doggies do this with their bones? They are usually snout to butt, but about a quarter of the time they are side by side. They swap bones, too. It's like mutual theft but neither of them care. We are lucky that their personalities seem to gel so well.

Mine do that all the time. I often say that I shouldn't ever buy more than one bone, since they'll both ignore one just to have a passive/aggressive war over the other. And it's a good indication that there are no dominance or aggression issues between them.

The new cat is definitely a shop cat.

If I fire up the dust extractor, or run the router, he's right there and enjoying the sawdust and noise. Not easily spooked.

I like that term, shop cat. It perfectly describes Leia, who was supposed to be my daughter's cat but she latched onto Mr. Bell and would hang out with him in his shop. Last fall we had to transition her to be an outdoor cat for various reasons, so now her domain is the shop and outside.
