Wish I'd put some money on this game. I've put $20 on the underdog in years past, but didn't get around to it this year.
Paltrow marriage aside, I actually kind of like Chris Martin. He's the musical embodiment of white privilege and Coldplay never "paid their dues" (got big pretty much right after they graduated from university in London), but he seems self-aware and pretty funny. His Carpool Karaoke with James Corden was great and he was hilarious in Extras. That being said, their new stuff is cheesy-ish, but the man can write a emotional track. Fix You, Politik, and The Scientist are my 3 fav Coldplay tracks and they cut me deep again each time, my god. Love how he had to crouch down so as not to tower over Beyonce and Bruno Mars despite only being 6'
I still think that was a catch in the first quarter. His hand was clearly under the ball and in control of it when the edge of it brushed the ground. The ball wasn't loose until it was up on top of his body and he regained control before it touched the ground in a loose fashion. In any case, it doesn't matter, cause I'm glad Peyton gets to retire with dignity. I sort of felt bad for Newton towards the end there. He's a super talented young guy, he plays the game like crazy; it just seemed like he, and the entire Panthers team, simply didn't believe they could lose, and so when they were in the process of losing, they looked very confused and upset. It also would have been nice to see Jared Allen get a ring. Next year, I guess. Bruno Mars was the only part of that halftime show that made any sense. Coldplay doesn't have enough upbeat popular tunes to carry a show of that length, and it showed. They seemed like they were the colorful, enthusiastic openers for Bruno and Beyonce. And she looked like she had to shit the whole time, while being backed up by early 90's era Rhythm Nation (Janet would've been a better choice for a cameo). Bruno, on the other hand looked like a consummate professional, made it look easy and fun. And his crew looked like LL Cool J wannabes.
I'm sure there's racism amongst "the NFL," but not for any of the reasons Twitter was talking about. Super Bowl MVP is Black, NFL MVP is Black, a Black QB did win the Super Bowl 2 years ago, and would've won it again last year if not for a Black defensive back. The Panthers lost because the Denver defense was better than the Carolina offense, and the Denver coaching staff did a better job than the Carolina coaching staff. The end.
The one thing I hope comes out of this is the media and NFL fucking stops with this 'Cam Newton is the future face of the league' bullshit. The media, and NFL, has spent the last two weeks essentially saying 'yes, he's had some issues in the past, but he's changed' in the hopes of rehabbing his image (which he wasn't really helping much). You ever wonder why Tom Brady wasn't the 'face of the NFL' despite the fact that he's the best QB (and Jesus, it pains me to say that, I fucking hate the Patriots and Brady), because he's kind of a dick. He's always been kind of a dick. Peyton (whom I have far less respect for as a player) is a much nicer guy. Hence, he was the 'face of the league.' Cam showed he's still the same douchebag he was at Florida, Blaine, Auburn, and the Carolina sidelines two scant years ago, and earlier this very year at the Auburn game. All that changed is he was a winner this year and the MVP (and deservedly so). The guy's a phenomenal athlete and has really grown as a QB. Another year like this year? Yeah, he's in the elite category. But he's a dick. Always has been. But he's still young. I just hope this guy takes something from all of this and changes his attitude (I'm thinking of Von Miller here). It can happen. I hope it does, because the guy is fucking electric. But he can't do the nonsense (like failing to jump on the ball he was stripped of, pouting on the sideline (a la 2012-2013), and acting like a baby in the press conference. Look up Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Colin Kaepernick after they lost the past four years. They all were gracious, despite the fact that they lost (and Russell Wilson must have felt awful after losing to the Patriots last year). I hope the media and NFL either ditches this 'face of the NFL' in general bullshit (like, why do you need 1 face?) or they find someone who's at least not a douchebag. But so far, the media and NFL appears to be doubling down on this guy. I don't get it.
That was a great Puppy Bowl, I'm proud of my boy Timber repping the yellow labs like he did. If I wind up getting the dabeetus from eating all the peanut butter cookies my fiancée baked yesterday, it was all worth it.
I feel the exact same way about Peyton Manning. In other news, God is dead. Not only is God dead, but in his death throes he was shrieking about how he hates each and every one of us.
I tend to agree. I'm also sick to death of how Manning is blown by the media. He should have retired prior to last season. Frankly, the Broncos would have been far better served with Osweiller than Peyton. All I heard for the past two weeks is 'oh, but he brings other things to the position other than throwing the ball.' Uh, he's a FUCKING QB! HIS WHOLE FUCKING JOB IS TO THROW THE FUCKING BALL! Whenever the pundits start going on about the 'immeasurables' you know they're full of shit. Denver converted 1 third down yesterday. 194 total yards. That's fucking horrible. Imagine if they had a QB that could throw. Denver has decent receivers. I am so glad Denver is moving on from the Manning years.
The Denver QB situation was interesting. Is Brock currently a more capable QB? Athletically yes. But the job yesterday wasn't to go out and throw for 400 yards, it was to not fuck up. Who do you trust not to fuck up, Peyton or Brock? In my mind Peyton was the obvious choice whereas Brock was more likely to go out there, try to do too much and not manage the game well. Not saying Peyton did great, he certainly didn't, but he did what was asked and that was not to lose the game for the defense. The team decided to play the 40 year old vet who can't quite hack it anymore over the kid who they didn't trust quite yet. Brock will have more than enough time to put up stats next year. They had one night they had to win, so they went with the old guy
The half time show fucking sucked. Coldplay is Debbie Downer music. And the only reason Beyonce was there (besides to stink it up in her usual fashion) was to promote the single she had dropped in Tidal the day before. What a bunch of shit. They should have let Bruno do the whole thing by himself. Carolina looked like lost kids on the field. IMO they made it an easy win for the Broncos. And what a boring ass game. I'm glad it's over.
Cam looked like a bully who just go punched in the mouth for the first time, he did not want to fight anymore and he quit. If you have that swagger when you win, you better have the balls to not be a petulant child when you lose. Manning played like shit, they should have put Brock in, defense won that game. Congrats to the Denver fans. I won $125 in squares, I was in 2 different ones for a total of $50 so I came out alright.
You don't get it, do you? If they had a younger QB they would have won the SUPERSuperbowl which is even BETTER than winning first place and being champion.
I can't possibly know for sure, but it also looked to me that late in the game, Peyton checked off at the line . . . to a running play off-tackle. He was fully on board with where Kubiak's head was. It was the better play to punt and let your defense stand tall than to risk a throw for first down. I'm not sure Brock would've fully understood that or been on the same page.
Exactly. Peyton Manning's job was not to go out there and be Peyton. His job was to go out there and be Trent Dilfer. As much as I like Peyton and think he has had a brilliant career, he was able to out-Dilfer Trent as probably the worst starting QB in a Superbowl at least in the last 20 years.
