The 27 inch iMac's mini displayport is both input & output -- meaning that with Kanex XD I can play my Xbox or PS3 on the iMac screen. But the 27inch is a little out of my price range. I'm wondering if there's any way I can open the 21.5 iMac up, and switch out the mini displayport out for a mini displayport in/out. I'm guessing the MDP is integrated into the motherboard, but I couldn't find any information on the googles.
For the price and work involved wouldn't it be cheaper to get a mac mini and a multiple input monitor?
I have an HP Laserjet 1320 printer hooked up via USB to my desktop running Windows 7. I recently replaced the desktop, before it was an old one with Windows XP. The desktop is hooked up to my router via ethernet cable. My Macbook Pro laptop (with Snow Leopard) is on the same network but through WiFi. My problem is adding the printer to my laptop so I can print wirelessly. Before I replaced my desktop it worked fine, the problem is I set it up about three years ago when I got this laptop and I have no idea how I did it and I can't figure out how I did it. Maybe it has something to do with the switch from XP to 7? I don't know how to make the printer show up as an available printer on my laptop and every time I print something I have to physically connect my laptop to my printer. Help please.
Have you tried going to devices and printers in the control panel of the desktop and setting the printer to be shareable?? That would be the first place I would start, I believe you can right click on the printer on the desktop and go to sharing properties or something similar. This is mostly from my memory as I do not have any currently setup on my windows 7 and it has been awhile since I have done this.
Well my Ipod Classic was stolen over the weekend. I'm looking at replacements. Related to this, I hate my blackberry, and am considering getting the Droid X. Trying to figure out what I should get, as I don't have the cash to replace everything. I could just get another Classic, which I like because it can hold my entire music library ~45 gigs. I have some movies that can play on the classic too, but not really a major factor. If I get a classic, I would probably get the droid later this year. I'm also looking at the 64gb Touch. It would hold my library, plus I could take movies with me. It's more expensive, so getting the droid would be out of the question, at least until spring next year. I'm sure I'd use the apps, games, etc. on the touch, but obviously I've lived without them so far. Couple other considerations: I use my ipod when I'm out riding. The classic worked nicely, as I could slip it in my front pocket and change songs just by pressing the button through my jeans. Dunno how that would work with the touch. I doubt the voice controls work at 70mph. I have an ipod docking station for my home theater system. I don't know if the touch is compatible with the dock? I know with my classic, I couldn't have video playback, but I had music playback, charging, and could change songs via receiver remote. I believe I have this dock: http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=DS-A2X&p=i&class=Accessory From this http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=HT-S7100&class=Systems&p=i system. I never really use my phone for music, though that could change. I could definitely see making a "riding playlist" and just use my phone when out for a ride. I'd still want my full catalog for parties, in the car, etc. so the classic would work. So if you have any thoughts or suggestions, they'd be much appreciated. Do you have a touch? How do you like it? Same with the Droid. Thanks guys.
Whenever I try to watch anything on Hulu or Netflix the videos lag pretty bad. Is there any way to fix this without getting a new computer? I swear a month ago it was fine and now it's gotten much slower. I use Firefox and it lags so I tried internet explorer but that's no better. Should I download google chrome? Could it be my internet connection? It says I'm connected at something like 54mb/sec which seems like the max speed. Does resetting the router or modem help with this?
For what it's worth, according to this site, http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/, you should hold off on buying a classic or touch, as new versions are going to be released in the near future. I own a 32gb touch (3rd gen, I think) and it's awesome. The App store and wireless capabilities definitely make it worth the money. As far as the headphone mic, it's kind of "meh" while running/windy. It's not that big of a deal for me since I usually just pick a long playlist and go. The next gen Touch is supposed to have a 3MP camera that shoots video as well, in addition to other misc hardware improvements.
Hi I've searched and searched, here and all over, and can't find any good recommendations.... I need a car head-unit with 2 requisite: 1) works great with an attached ipod: controls it, shows the song name/artist, etc 2) works great with an iphone via bluetooth: pairs automatically, pauses the ipod when I make or receive a call, doesnt make me fiddle with the iphone at all for answering an incoming call and then hanging up. And that resumes the ipod music when I hang up. Can anyone recommend a head unit? I just don't want those DVD playing $1000 jobs.
So far the best aftermarket unit I've seen is from Alpine. I'd head down to your nearest pro Alpine shop and check out the showroom.
I'm running Avast! and it's just come up with 3 alerts-some malware and a Trojan horse. I don't understand these things too well-I've done as recommended and 'moved to chest' the problems, but does this mean they've been doing god knows what to my computer for as long as they've been on there? If anyone could help an idiot understand these things a bit better I'd be greatful.
It means that Avast detected them. That's all. You can't tell how long they've been there or if other parts of your system are infected. Run two virus scans now. Run a full system scan with Avast, first. Then go download <a class="postlink" href="http://www.malwarebytes.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.malwarebytes.org</a> Anti-Malware, and run a full system scan. If it comes up clean then you're good. It might detect the things that were moved to the "chest" but it'll be obvious from the file path when it detects it (e.g. it'll be in c:\program files\avast\virus chest\ or something like that) - that's okay.
Looking to add a graphics card to my Asus laptop to play some older PC games, however everything I've read says it's no simple task. Anyone tried this before, and if so, is the performance worth the hassle?
This is kind of a 'how long is a piece of string' question. If you are savvy and have the right tools and got the graphics card at a good price - sure it can be worth the hassle. If you've never pulled a laptop apart before and don't consider the magic technicians blackstick to be one of the five most useful tools that you've ever owned - you may well find that this is more pain than it's worth. You also need to remember that laptops are more prone to contact static issues than most PC's - so grounding yourself properly and having a good work space is more important than when you're changing your Dad's NIC. How much will the card cost, how much will it cost to get it either professionally installed or to just buy a new laptop that already has that card and is otherwise performance equivalent to your current laptop and how much would you get if you sold your current laptop on Ebay? From there you can figure out how much you're saving by doing it yourself and make a better worth the hassle decision. Depends a lot on the model of laptop too. Some laptops (most recent HP's for instance) are easy to pull apart and do your own maintenance on. I've never seen anyone outside of a Mac shop pull their macbook apart and get it back together well enough that they were happy with the end result. I've not done enough with Asus laptops to generalize one way or the other - but from talking to the technicians who did a lot of laptop stuff at a previous gig - at least some of the models are a big pain in the ass to just get open.
To elaborate, do laptops perform comparably to a desktop for pc games? Less in terms of Star Craft 2, more along the lines of Age of Empires 2.
What are you using for video now (what's in the laptop)? If you don't know, post the model number and maybe we can look it up.
Are you serious? The system requirements for AoE2 is a 166mhz processor and 2mb of video ram. That is beyond outdated. Any computer you buy today will be at least 2000 mhz and have 64-128mb of vram. I'm wondering why you think you need a new video card? If you are specifically wanting to play old PC games a newer computer shouldn't have a problem running them. To answer your question, not usually. In a laptop, space and heat are huge issues. Corners have to be cut. A desktop will usually outperform a laptop with similar specs if only by a negligible amount, and cost at least 1/3 less. I think using a laptop specifically for gaming is stupid unless the newest game you want to play is 4 or 5 years old.
You can put together a desktop that will run sc2 for about 250 dollars. Some assembly required. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6532266&CatId=31" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... 6&CatId=31</a> This will do the trick, just add a video card. If all you want to do is sc2, just add a video card. A geforce 8400 GS will run sc2 no problem.
So I may have an opportunity to be a sales manager for an internet based, b2b business. I could use some general advice and information from those who have experience doing sales in the tech field regarding, well, tech sales. Thanks.
I'm not sure if its been posted/linked already, but I get my upgrade tomorrow on Verizon. I'm looking at the Samsung Reality and the EnV Touch. I do an OK amount of texting (maybe 50 a day), and no browsing or business on my phone. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks again.
I got a new laptop today. I fired it up a few hours ago and did all the set up. I transferred all my data (porn), reinstalled all my favorite programs, got new anti-virus software etc etc etc. Everything went off without a hitch. But now that I'm just sitting back relaxing I've noticed something undesirable about the monitor. It is much brighter than my old laptop. I don't know how to adjust the brightness on laptops. It's good to know that I'll be able to see my screen at high noon. But it sucks when I'm sitting in the dark trying to relax a few hours before I go to sleep. I'm hoping someone can please tell me how to change it. I've searched google without any luck. I welcome anything from amateur guesses to expert opinions. I'm so desperate that if I can't figure it out on my own I'm going to call Geek Squad. I'll have to ask them if they can charge me $699.97 (+ tax and handling fees) to come tinker around in my control panel for a few minutes and do it for me. I'm hoping it doesn't resort to that. Thank you in advance for all answers and replies.
