I am looking to buy a tablet pc. All I want to do with it is to be able to run microsoft excel. I am using it for grading in my classrooms, so it would need to be fairly quick and durable. Is there anything on the market that's under 450?
Okay, I have a stupid question. I got sent a file that is saved in a Works (wps) format. I have tried opening it in Microsoft Word, but it will only show part of the document. No, it cannot be resent in a different program or an RTF format. The person's computer that it was sent from used to have Microsoft Works now they don't, so they cannot resave it; or even open it for that matter. Is there anyway that I can open this damn file without having to buy Microsoft Works? Thank you!
Not so much help as a general question. When I go to look for my TV shows on certain forums I can get them at about 5 - 8 minutes after they air depending on the show. What I noticed though is that there are like 10 people who post at almost the same time, but all have different Hotfile/MegaUpload/FileServe/etc links. No overlap. So clearly there is a large group getting the TV shows before I do, and having the chance to upload them. Any idea how they get them that fast? Is this private trackers or what? Because we're talking these guys must have it like... 2 minutes after the hour to get it uploaded for people then. I'd love to get the shows fast for an idea I'm working on, and as insane as this sounds - the extra 3 - 5 mins does make a difference. Thanks
Okay, going to try to make this story short: I had previously upgraded the hard drive of my PS3. Then, a disc got stuck in the system and I had to send it in for servicing. They sent me a new (refurbished) system back, along with my 500 GB hard drive. When I put the HDD into the system, it won't boot, and says that I'll have to format it. Naturally, I'd prefer not to format it until I get the files off of it so that I don't lose everything I had on there (I am a giant geek, and don't want to lose all my game saves). So my question is this: I know there is a cord or adapter I can use to connect my laptop hard drive to my computer so that I can get the information off of it, I'm just wondering where I could find one and what I am looking for. I'll probably also use it to turn my old PS3 harddrive (they sent back a 40 GB harddrive with the system) into an external hard drive, so it won't go to waste, I just thought I'd ask here. Thanks for any help!

Close, yeah. My brother actually directed me to one that was perfect for what I need. Thanks, though, appreciate it.
So I was forced to get a new laptop and all the data on my old one can't be recovered. Luckily, I have it all backed up on an external. Unluckily, that external is back at home at my parents house about 400 miles away. I need to get access to about 50 gigs of data off it asap. I've used dropbox in the past but their quota for free accounts is only 2 gigs. I looked into windows live mesh but their cap is 5. I've also used VPN via Hamachi to share files with friends through DC++, however, my parents aren't tech savvy at all so setting all that up with them would be a huge chore. So does anyone know of a user friendly way of sharing a directory such that I can access and download its contents remotely?
Walk them through installing TeamViewer. Download and install it on your machine as well. Getting them to install that program is wicked easy, and all the defaults are what they would use. Once it's done, have them read off the connection number, and the passcode. Then, you'll have complete access to their machine.
Thanks a bunch man, it worked perfectly and they had no problem setting it up. Transferring the files now.
Somebody please help jog my memory...I need to flush the DNS in Windows, but every time I type ipconfig /flushdns into the command prompt I'm told I need to elevate my level. I've done it before and I can't recall how. How do you enter the command prompt as the administrator?
When you're opening the command prompt from the start menu - instead of just running it, right click on the icon, select 'Run as Administrator' from the dialog box. Assuming you have Windows 7 it should look fairly similar to this. Vista should be close enough to figure it out.
I just connected a cassette deck to my computer (running XP, onboard MB sound), and can play tapes just fine. What I want to do though, is use my (very old) recording software to rip some concert bootlegs to audio files. I'm having a problem, in that the audio level coming in is too high; the sound on the final MP3 could end up distorted. This should be a simple matter of turning down the "line volume" slider, but as you can see in the screen shot below it's grayed out. I've done a good deal of Googling, and what everyone is saying is that for ASUS motherboards there's no fix. I'm wondering though, is there a way I could fuck with the registry to change this? I suppose I could also install a sound card, but I'd rather conquer ASUS's fuckheadery if I can. Thanks!
hypothetically, you could fuck with the registry to enable that bar. But that would be a really bad idea and wouldn't solve your problem since it wouldn't actually enable the functionality - it'd just make the slider work. You would need to either a) write new drivers for your soundcard and with an onboard soundcard, possibly your motherboard or b) install a new soundcard with drivers that actually support what you're trying to do. Personally, I'd go with the new sound card. There's usually a good reason for not supporting features in driver sets (like they won't work). I'd also probably check out Audacity as a replacement for your recording software. It's freeware and it's pretty solid. Although I've never tried it with a tape deck, I can't see any obvious reason that it wouldn't work.
Can anyone tell me what this means, and what I can do about it considering it's being caused by a CD that came with a piece of hardware I bought (as opposed to some software I ripped illegally)? I'm trying to figure out if I got burned with a shitty product.
