Binary. Should I retry with ASCII? Binary worked for manually installing Joomla and my template.

I got my support ticket back from GoDaddy, and they said I should be able to increase the max execution time to 60 seconds, by creating my own php5.ini file.

Any idea what's supposed to be in this file? Or where it needs to go?

This might let me use the normal installation instead of the Install from Directory option.

If they're text files or html then you might need ASCII. Executables, pdfs, jpgs or the like should use binary. I don't know anything about Joomla, but I know I've had some issues with ftp modes when transferring text files. Depending on the host, you might need ASCII or Binary. It's been a while, but it has to do with newlines. The Windows newline has a carriage return and a line feed and Unix newline only has a line feed. If these are just text files, try them with ASCII. It doesn't sound like that's the issue, but it was just a thought.

No dice on ASCII, still just draws a blank screen. There's still a chance I simply have the file path wrong, though what I've read on support forums would indicate it's right.

I think the best shot is adding the php5.ini file, but I'm having trouble finding what exactly is supposed to go into it, just being told what to edit in an existing one.

Looking for some help with some issues I've had over the last few days. I am running Windows 7.

I was unable to open Firefox, Malwarebytes, Windows Update or a few other programs. I am also occasionally receiving error messages from Windows that various programs have stopped working and asking if I want to submit feedback to Windows. I ran a full disc scan w/ Avast and it found one error, which I moved to the chest (didn't keep a record of the error). Still had the same issues so I ran a boot scan and restarted in Safe mode, then ran another full disc scan w/ Avast and w/ Malwarebytes, but found no issues. After that I was able to open Firefox in safe mode, then in regular mode after I restarted again, but it stopped responding midway through my first attempt to type this post. I am able to open IE, which is what I'm using now.

Please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide or if anyone has any suggestions.

I think I can safely say I just made the whole thing worse.

I found what I thought was supposed to be the contents of the php.ini file, uploaded it and...completely crashed my site. So then I deleted the file...and everything is still offline.

    Frack.

[Edit: It's back. The site must have been having unrelated problems. I need a fucking beer.]

Assuming your webhost is half way competent, they have some kind of monitoring in place that noticed that PHP had shit itself and probably an automatic process to restart it. You can certainly kill PHP by pushing a bad php.ini

Exactly why I came here looking to find out what I'm supposed to use. I only need something that changes the max execution time from 30 to 60. Is there a good template I can use?

Easiest way is to request a copy of the existing php.ini from your webhost and modify that. You can just create your own from scratch, but it's a pain in the ass and you've got a bunch of potential to change behaviour of your code in an unexpected way by accident.

Is it not possible to create a file that would modify only the single item I need fixed?

In the past 2 weeks, my Motorola Droid went from fairly responsive to the touch screen being damn near insensitive. Instead of responding to my actions, it flicks up and to the right and stays stuck that way with occasional bouncing. Programs and buttons do not respond even if the screen "senses" that I've activated the icon. Oftentimes, my phone will go through a random series of menus before glitching into the upper right corner. If I put my phone in standby, I can generally free up a few seconds of time before the phone freaks out again. It's become more persistent this week and I'm at my wits end.

Right now, I'm running the Verizon issued Froyo (Android 2.2). I haven't had any problems beforehand and no spills or anything. A screen protector keeps the screen safe at all times.

I've done a factory reset. No go. The problem still exists.

    Any advice?

Have any of you ever used the Zoom interpreter to play text adventures? I've had it installed in the past, and was going to download and reinstall it today. Previously, I'm pretty sure I downloaded a setup file that installed itself like any other Windows program.

All I can find this time around is a compressed file that unzips into this clusterfuck:

I don't know what the file called Install is supposed to do. It doesn't have an extension; I tried adding an .exe extension, and it wouldn't run. All of the instructions I'm finding for setting this up involve compiling it, and I can't make heads or tails of it.

I then remembered that I posted a link to the setup file I used before, to one of the forums I frequent. I searched, found my old post, the link was still good, I downloaded the file... And it's a .dmg file, a Mac disc image. I found a utility to convert it to ISO, but MagicDisc will mount neither one. Everything has seemingly changed since the last time I installed Zoom.

I'm probably doing something very stupid here, hopefully just failing at Googling. I'd really like to play the non-web Java version of Anchorhead again. Any ideas?

You downloaded the uncompiled source code, when you wanted the binaries. Go back and try and find somewhere to download the compiled installer rather than the source.

What's your guys' opinion on the best Android phone? My Droid's touch screen is FUBAR and I have an early contract upgrade to burn.

Samsung Galaxy S is one of the nicer ones available in Aus at the moment. The Google Nexus S is available in some places and due to drop shortly in most others, and is being reviewed pretty positively. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.google.com/nexus/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.google.com/nexus/</a>

I'm probably going to get an HTC Desire HD in the next week or so. It's price point locally makes it very attractive. And HTC kit is generally v. nice here.

Is there a way for me to set up a fax machine in my car or anywhere away from a land line? I keep googling it and these websites say it's possible. But I keep getting the run around on what's necessary, cost, and what I need.

Not sure if it's an Australian thing - but here you can get an email to fax service - where you send an email to some address, with the subject the fax number you want to send too, and the contents of the email get faxed to the number. You can also get reverse services where some provider has a bunch of fax interfaces hooked into a computer and they just email you any faxes your service receives. Then you just need a phone that can handle email. A quick google search found a bunch of Australian services - but no international ones. Might want to check out options near you.
