Alright, so I asked in the Can You Help Me With This Thread and was directed to this post. I am a dummy and can't figure this out, I really am quite technologically illiterate. Summary of the problem is that I had my music on a computer that died. Still have the music on my ipod, but not on my new computer and want to be able to add new stuff to my ipod without losing what I have. So - here we are at these simple to follow instructions. That I can't follow. How do you set your ipod to disk mode? Where is view under explorer? Apparently I need to have this explained to me like you are explaining it to your 89 year old grandmother who has never touched a computer before in her life. Anybody willing to help?

The problem is nothing is as it says it will be. In control panel, I don't have the option for portable network device. If I find it in Explorer, my "hidden" box in uncheckable. I found the select hidden files in Explorer, but nothing appeared to happen. I guess I can access all the stuff on my computer (of which there is nothing) but am trying to find the stuff on my iphone. When I double click on it, I don't get a tools menu.
What OS? In Windows XP, if you open Windows Explorer and click Tools > Folder Options, can you check "Show Hidden Files or Folders"? In Windows Vista/7, you open Windows Explorer, then press the Alt button and the tools menu will appear, and you can do the same thing.
Server n00b question here. I've got a PowerEdge R710 that I need to add another hard drive to the current RAID5 configuration. Is it possible to add another drive and simply increase the size of the virtual disk? Or do I have to essentially start from scratch with a new virtual disk and do a system recovery? Thanks.
Mount the disk, use the raid control software that ships for your server (I think OpenManage for Dell?) to join the disk to the array, once the array see's the disk - use Diskpart to expand the partition. <a class="postlink" href="http://content.dell.com/us/en/enterprise/d/solutions/openmanage-server-administrator.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://content.dell.com/us/en/enterpris ... rator.aspx</a> <a class="postlink" href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300415" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300415</a> If you're expanding your boot/system partition (usually C - it's a bit harder, you won't be able to run Diskpart on the mounted system drive - if you've got your 2008 server install disk, boot from that and fire up a command prompt from the boot loader and run diskpart from there. Without opening the hardware specs for your server (and I don't do Dell server hardware) - as long as you can hot swap disks, mounting the physical disk won't have any impact. Adding it to your RAID array will diminish IO performance for the duration of the work. If you have a flakey RAID controller, or one of the dozens of issues with the RAID controller software - the raid expansion can take AGES and if you have IO operations running in that time, they'll lag like a bitch. But if you have all good hardware and don't find any software bugs - should be 10-15 minutes (unless you have giant drives full of tiny files, then it might take longer) and might be a few seconds. Diskpart won't have any noticable impact on server performance and should take more time to enter the commands than to complete the extension. Obviously if you have to boot from a DVD to get to a command prompt - that will be a server offline thing.
So, I'm in desperate need of some help here. One of my 360 discs got scratched. The game can boot, but I can't play without getting the "unreadable disc" error. Is it at all possible to put the game on a blank DVD in a way that my 360 will read without modding the actual console? And if so, will someone please give me some info on how? I've googled this and most of the results mention modding the console, and the directions on how to actually make the disc itself are incredibly varied. Any help here would be greatly appreciated, because the disc is on loan. I'm not going to suck any dick, but I'm about a half step short of that kind of desperation.
If your disc is scratched, then data is missing. So the only way you can get that game again is to download a pirated version online, and burn it to disc. Which requires a modified console to use. Sorry, but you're probably SOL. If you wanted to be sneaky and dishonest, you could rent the game from a local rental place, then return the scratched one and tell them it was unplayable because it was scratched when you opened the box.
How do I get drivers (the .ini files) for HP printers? If you go to their website all you can download are those stupid fucking .exe packages that either don't work or take forever. I'm presuming that the actual drivers are somewhere in those packages but I don't know how to get into them to get what I need.
Those EXEs are installers for the driver. Some different formats are available (probably not from HP) but they're just OS-specific files that follow a predetermined guideline. INI files are text files used for configuration stuff and aren't at all what you want. <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Device_driver" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Device_driver</a> Download the correct driver for your hardware and OS and install it. If it takes longer than 10 minutes to do that, you have a slow internet connection or computer. If that didn't work, we'll need to know things like your OS and printer model to be helpful.
This is for work, so I have lots of different printer models. I hate using HP's installer because it takes too long and asks me to do crap like have my printer unplugged until a certain point during the installation. I much prefer to use to just use the add printer function in windows, since it's much faster and I can select the port I want to use. For that I have folders on my network drive that contain all the driver information; I need to figure out how I can do that for HP drivers because the Add Printer function isn't going to work from an executable.
I'm building a new computer, and just threw together this wishlist after some research. If you guys could take a look at it and see if I'm missing anything/better deal/etc, that'd be great. [edit] I should mention that this is primarily an audio workstation, and I already have a graphics card that I'm just gonna swap from the old to the new.
I'd get a different PSU. The TX650 is great and it's been running silently in my PC for ~3 years now, but it's an older model and there are better PSUs out there. I'd add the extra 10 bucks and get a seasonic X650 Gold. The case doesn't look too silent and in an audio focused system I'd guess that's important? If so then I'd look into Antec or lurk around here. The SOLO/Sonata is a great case, but it might get a little cramped in there. Antec's p183 is a great choice, but might be a bit too expensive. If you don't plan on overclocking then I'd get some cheaper RAM. edit: Didn't notice the 30$ rebate on the PSU. In that case, it's a good buy.
Only two comments: It's a good build. The case is mediocre, and as stated above, if audio is your target, you might want to consider a case designed for quieter computing. I have an Antec P180 that's several years old but nicely built, quiet, and designed to accommodate whatever level of silence you desire. The current iteration is the P183: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129174" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811129174</a> You might be able to find old stock of any of the P18x series cases that may be cheaper. Just a thought. The ATX standard isn't going anywhere soon so you could have the case for a good long time. Also, that particular SSD has slow random write speeds, you might be able to do better... it's a good price, though. It's a good build as-is, though, so don't hesitate to pull the trigger.
Why don't you use one of your servers as a print server? Then, all you need to do is install the printers once, share them out from the server, and then add the network printer to each workstation. Doesn't that make more sense? Also, if that isn't an option, try using HP's Universal Print Driver for all the installations. And, for the love of all that's holy, just save the fucking file to a server or flash drive. Jesus, if my boss saw me downloading the same file for each workstation he'd slap me upside my head.
Unfortunately I have to do a local install of all the printers otherwise our EHR software won't recognize the printer. But yes, I have all my drivers saved on shared folder on our file server. Give me a little credit, I wouldn't download something multiple times to multiple workstations either.
My apologies... Just the way you originally worded it made it sound like you were downloading the files each time. Well, if you have to install it locally, then my recommendation for using HP's UPD would probably work best for you. It's very simple, and only asks for the IP address of the printer that needs to be installed. Just make sure to use PCL 5 and not 6. I've had a lot of issues with PCL 6.
