Bad power is the number one killer of hard drives. Before you do anything go get a cheap battery backup for your computer. It'll stop power surges and, more importantly, brownouts. (drops in power are more harmful than spikes usually).
Question regarding iTunes songs and playback on Android devices... The company my father works for is switching from AT&T to Verizon as their service provider. So, he's thinking about going from an iPhone that he currently has, to an Android phone. I've seen some articles online about this, but I'm not 100% them... So I guess what I need to know is whether the iTunes songs will play on an Android device.
Sure, it writes files to the hard drive during that process. No guarantees, of course, but it's certainly possible. If you can pull the drive out of your machine and load it into a friend's, you might be able to find out directly if it's the hard drive.
iTunes songs without DRM will work. Otherwise, you will have to strip the DRM. This will show you how to identify DRM music (I don't use iTunes anymore so I don't know if it's accurate): http://pocketpccentral.net/help/android ... _music.htm Google will help you strip the DRM if necessary. There are also apps that will let him continue to use iTunes to manage his playlists if he likes iTunes.
I have these Sony earbuds. I use them sporadically, but I haven't used them in about a month. I have never had any problems with them. I plugged them in just now, and they don't work. (I spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong with the device, until I realized it was the headphones.) I don't mean they crackle, or one side comes in and out or anything. I mean, there's nothing. They were working fine, I set them on a shelf, picked them up a month later and now - zippo. I've plugged them in to two computers, my mp3 player and my phone and they don't work. I have confirmed that others work in those devices, but these don't. Any ideas? I think they only cost about $15, so I'm not trying to repair them or anything. I just don't understand how they can just break - they're a pretty simple device. Oh, the picture doesn't show, but there's no volume or mute switch inline on the cable. It's just as basic as can be. No worky.
I am having some really weird issues, that i hope someone can help me out with. First off my computer: XP SP3 32bit AMD 64 X2 5000+ 4 gigs ram ATI Radeon HD4800 series 1gig DirectX 9c 4.09.0000.0904 My problem is that my computer crashes hard and quick from what i am doing to POST beeps in about 2 seconds. At first i thought it was a hardware problem, so i ran memtest86 and let it run through atleast 2 full passes and it was perfectly fine. Then i ran few programs to max out my cpu to see if there was a problem there, but after atleast 2-3 hours a pop, no problems and no reboots. So now i am down to it is a software problem(with some back story a bit later). I went and looked at the drwatson/drwtson32 log files and nothing shows up. A bit of back story. About a week ago i finally went and got Deus Ex: HR. Installed it and everything is going fine. Then 2-3days ago i started to get very random crashes while playing the game and nothing else. I went and googled and found that few people were having a few problems once and a while that the game would crash to desktop and thought that it was just my luck that it would completely crash my computer and thought nothing of it. Then tried to watch a video on how to do a side quest http://www.ign.com/wikis/deus-ex-human-revolution/Bar_Tab and it crashed my computer. Then i tried it again and my computer crashed(nothing else was running). So i went and tried youtube and a bunch of porn site, thinking it might be some weird flash thing. And nothing happened. So i went back and tried that video again and it crashed my computer. The computer crashes with the first 15-35 seconds of watching that video, no exceptions(have tried about 10 times). Then i went back and tried the game and it crashes at completely random times, tried recreating what i was doing in game, and it never crashes at the same spot twice. So anybody got any idea's at to what the hell is the matter with my computer? Any questions shot my a pm and i will get back to you as soon as i can. Thanks in advance for any help.
They were $15. And probably cost them less than a buck to actually make. They used the cheapest components imaginable, the least material possible, with the most "efficient" process they could come up with. Odds are the solder connection in the jack was done with shit material and has dried out and become brittle and snapped, or oxidized and disconnected, over time. Another possibility is that a wire got brittle and snapped. In the end, you get what you pay for. I spent $120 on a set of Shure sound isolating earbuds about 5 years ago. I use them almost daily. They are still going strong, and sound amazing. $0.02
Sounds like a video issue. Have you tried updating your drivers? When the machine crashes during that video every time, does it blue screen?
Wow, i feel kind of dumb now, never thought of that. I haven't had video driver issue's in so long i completely forgot they even existed any more. Thanks, it seems to work so far now.
Well fuck me, it was too good to last. Well i can watch the video fine, played the game for a long while 2+ hours and everything was going fine. Then all the sudden the computer just shut off, guess it was part video card driver, and part something else. Anyone got any clues?
Could be a heat issue. A lot of laptops have serious heat issues, and if you're playing a game for a long period of time, especially if it's set to high resolution/framerates, it can cause a shit-ton of heat to build up and trigger a thermal cutoff. It's even worse if it's an older, less efficient graphics card that has to work harder to keep up with the games. Try reducing the graphic settings to something less taxing, and see if that helps.
Let's say, hypothetically, that you're brother liked to watch television at absurdly loud volume levels. Let's also say that he constantly watches reruns of TV shows he's watched (literally) dozens of times all the way through using a roku. You have exhausted all avenues of reason and you're at your limit. You've devised a plan to fix the problem, but in order to execute this plan, you need to get the MAC address of the roku and his computer (just in case he decided to plug in his computer to the television). How would you go about finding these addresses from your computer. In this hypothetical, your belkin router doesn't display that information. Here's a relevant link: http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app...-access-to-your-network-(mac-address-control)
Do you know the IP addresses of the devices? Look around on the router for ARP cache. If you can't find it/it doesn't show it and you know the IPs you can try this. It doesn't always work, but I've used it successfully before on local networks. I think as long as the IPs are on the same subnet it should work but I could be wrong.
Oh, absolutely. I was not expecting more than $15 worth from them (they were a stocking stuffer) and I have a decent pair that are my primary headphones. I'm just always intrigued, cheap or not, when something was working 100% one day, then 0% the next. Prior to this, there was no crackle or signs of failure that is typical to a wire or connection going bad. And, I can't wiggle it to make it work at all (that's what she said). Oh well.
Anyone have any experience with Drupal? I don't know a whole lot about this stuff, but my company's website is using Drupal and I just want to be able to make it do a few simple things. I've been perusing the main site for some modules, but there seems to be a lot of them and I'm not so sure which ones I would want to use. Right now, I'm just looking for a module that plays videos that are locally hosted on our server. It seems like every module that does that also includes video uploading and all that other jazz, which I don't need.
So a few weeks ago my computer gets fried...took it in to a repair shop, they said the motherboard is fried. I'm not a gamer, basically just use my laptop for the internet, word processing, and the occasional movie, so it was cheaper to buy a new PC that fit my needs than to get the motherboard on my old one replaced. Anyway, the old computer is fine apart from the motherboard (I have this in writing from a technician), and I'd like to sell it as-is to someone to cannibalize for spare parts or whatever. Only problem is, I have a ton of personal information on the hard drive, and I can't delete it because the computer simply doesn't boot up at all. Is there any way to wipe the hard drive on the old computer without being able to boot it up (ie getting my new computer to recognize it as an external hard drive, etc.) and if so, how do I go about doing this?
If it's an old shitty drive, I'd just pull it out and not include it. Drives are stupidly cheap, and the new owner can buy a new one for a few bucks. It also gives them a chance to upgrade it before installing anything onto it.
I've done tons of Drupal work, but not in the past year (and it changes pretty fast). Drupal is extremely flexible and extensible -- that is the main reason is has become so popular. Go to http://www.drupal.org and ask the General forum there. If you don't get an answer, PM me and I will ask some of the Drupal developers that use to work for me. Mediafront is a free player that works pretty well with Drupal: http://drupal.org/project/mediafront There is a custom CCK display plug-in and a Views plug-in.
I'm looking for a Windows app to rip about 500 CD's and store them in an uncompressed format. I need the audio files to playback on any Windows and OS/X system, and eventually put them on an iPod (still uncompressed). What applications do you guys recommend? I don't mind buying a reasonably (<$100) prices commercial software.
