Can't edit from my phone, Tapatalk plug in needs to be updated on the forum apparently, spoke to soon.. Who handles that stuff for TiB?
The tapatalk plugin on TiB needs to be updated, unfortunately I think Netdata handles that, and he is MIA with work - or whatever.
I am looking into getting dictation software. I do a lot of writing, some creative, some not, and the truth is that I hate the physical act of writing. I know there's a set of dictation tools called Dragon, but there's also a fairly large array of versions and types. Does anyone have any helpful experience with either dictation software in general or Dragon in particular? Anything about microphones I need to know? Thanks! Using a PC with Windows 7 Ultimate at the moment.
Dragon is far-and-away the best software I've tried. You want Dragon NaturallySpeaking: http://www.nuance.com/for-individuals/b ... /index.htm I don't remember all the differences between Premium and Home but last I knew, the same voice engine powered both so it was just choosing features, not quality of transcription. Dragon was the only software we could get to work with a guy who had an incredibly thick southern drawl. I don't know exactly what they do differently with their training engine, but we never got another piece of software to work effectively enough, even after a couple rounds of training, whereas a couple rounds of training in Dragon made his dictation almost flawless. It's not the only software out there, so definitely look around, just weighing in with my experience.
Hopefully this won't spawn a huge debate, but I trust this place for all my IT advice. If I scrap cable and get Apple TV, is it worth it? Can you get HBO/Discover/Nat. Geographic/any cable TV stations? If not Apple TV, something else...?
I don't think any of those networks have a direct streaming service, but I could be wrong. I have an Apple TV, but bought it to jailbreak and use to easily stream over my network, after Microsoft pushed out an XBox firmware update that hosed my streaming through that. It also works great for Netflix, and looks like it would be good for Hulu Plus and renting movies from iTunes. Sorry, I'm not much help here... ...But was hoping that I could get help with yet another issue of my own. Where the fuck are the display preferences in Ubuntu 10.04? This is what I'm seeing: Nothing in the D range for Display, nor is there anything in the Ses. My Google searches are yielding results that probably would have been very helpful for previous versions. Some sites tell how to manually edit the file that handles screen resolution, but I'm getting a blank file when I try to do that. Help?
I canceled my cable last month and between my Boxee Box, Netflix, Amazon Prime (PS3) and torrents I haven't missed it one bit. Fuck paying 100 a month for cable
the Apple TV is a box that lets you stream netflix, anything in the iTunes store, and any of the 'premium sports packages' like NHL Centre Ice. If those work for you, there you go.
Update: I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04, and now have display adjustments available, but the highest I can go is 1024x768. It seems that I have to edit the xorg.conf file to change that, or in this case create one, and my search for a generic xorg.conf that I can easily modify is coming up fruitless. (sigh) The Ubuntu forum is probably a better place to be asking these questions, but if anyone here has any quick solutions they would be much appreciated...
So, I've been trying to convert my Nook color I'm barrowing to run android. All the google searches and blogs get me no where. I get to step two to conver a file or something and get nothing. I guess I've just been out of the tech loop for a while to figure out how to open/save/what the fuck ever to these files. I thought it would be better to have andoid to run while on vacation, but no biggie. If anyone has done this, without shelling out the $35 for the preloaded card, some tips would be nice. My main problem seems to be moving and opening the downloaded files to the right spot. But, the filies I download are not 100% the same as the instuctions. I'm doing all this on windows. thanks
I would like to build an electronic scoreboard. It needs to have the ability to go up to two two-digit numbers (i.e. 25 and 25). I would like to have it so there is a +/- switch for each score, and a reset to zero button. So basically, three switches, 4 numbers. I've been doing a shit-load of googling, and there are basically a zillion ways to skin this cat. I would like the easiest possible way. I looked at 7-segment displays. The numbers need to be about 6" tall, and 3" wide. I have found 7-segment displays in that size, but they want $15 a piece for them. I figure a little bit of plexiglass or lexan and some LEDs can make that easier and cheaper. I would like to be able to mount the switches about 50' away from the scoreboard. I figure a momentary switch like this will work for the +/- button, and a momentary button like this will work for the reset. My question for you guys is how to control them the easiest. It seems like there needs to be a circuit built with a controller that will light up the various sections to correspond with the numbers I want. That controller will need a program that will go sequentially with the +/- button, and back to "0" on reset. I'm also going to need some sort of power device/converter since this needs to run on regular 110v power. Any ideas/suggestions?
Do any of you guys use Clear as an internet provider? I'm considering it, and then just using Hulu and Netflix, but I haven't heard too many good things...
I can't get my laptop and mobile phone to 'find' each other via blue tooth. I never had this problem with my old phone, and it isn't a case of not having the right pass-key or anything-they each simply refuse to accept that the other exists. I've checked and re-checked that both have their blue tooth switched on, and they can find other devices. Any thoughts?
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 I woke up this morning, went to turn on my computer, and suddenly it's hanging at the AHCI discovery screen. All my hard drives show up, the number at the top right is "18," and then it takes forever to go through the end of the discovery (the empty ports), which then makes the "Starting Windows" screen take about 2 minutes to either load up Windows or just completely stall out the whole machine. I've reseated all the hard drives, and then unplugged all except the solid state with Windows on it, and the problem still occurs. I went to "Load Optimized Defaults", which ended up setting the hard drive mode to IDE, and it still hung. It seems like it discovers the drives and then is looking for something else? Either way, it still takes a very long time on the Starting Windows screen to load, and it's about a 50/50 chance that it does load or just goes to a black screen. Any idea what's going on here? I've searched around to see what the "18" means but I can't find anything, if I could figure out what that designates as the problem I could probably go on troubleshooting but as of right now I can't figure out much.
I have the same motherboard and I am on my 3rd one. It's a piece of shit. While your problem sounds a little different from the common "boot loop" issue[which I had twice], it could be the start of it. You might want to check out this thread, it has some steps to reset the motherboard. http://www.overclock.net/t/1034724/giga ... ng-problem
Anybody have any experience with using an Apple Airport Express to extend the range of an existing wireless network? Pros/cons?
My motherboard blew up yesterday so today I've decided to build a new computer. My problem is that I recently bought new speakers but cannot for the life of me find the installation disk. They are Insignia 2.1 speakers. Is there a way to install them without a disk or a way to download the necessary information? I looked on the Internet but it's all in geekspeak and don't understand a word. Can you guys help me?
You shouldn't need an installation disk for speakers. They should just have a standard 1/8" round microphone jack that you can plug into the stereo output on your motherboard/sound card. Typically, the stereo output is light green colored. If plugging them in doesn't work (make sure your volume on your computer is turned up), then it's your sound card that needs an installation disk, not your speakers. Whoever built the computer for you (or, if you have the boxes) should have an install disk for that.
One of our clients is having an issue with his iPhone, where not all of his contacts are not synchronizing properly between the Exchange server and his phone, and vice versa. He has a ton of contacts, but I'm not sure that is the root cause of this. No other users in that environment have iPhones, so it's tough for me to iron out what could be causing this. No Exchange/Activesyc event log errors on the server, nor any that I can see on his phone. Contacts are set on the phone to use Exchange for the contact list. The fuck?
