It doesn't, but he only needed to swap channels because he was going to have to place the Left Speaker on the Right and vice versa, because the cord wasn't long enough. If he makes the cord longer, he can put them in their regular position. At least, I think that's what he was asking, lol.
I want to buy a 4/5 bay hard drive enclosure to make a small raid 5 array for backup/storage. Only brand i remember is Drobo but there seems to be a bunch on the market now. Any good recommendations? I have the hard drives already, just need the enclosure.
You need the enclosure, or also the computer/controllers/software for them as well? For an all-in-one thing I've really had good luck with QNAP, until I didn't need it any more.
yea i need everything. I have been saying for a long while now i was going to just use an old computer and never have.
I bought a Synology DS1019+. They make a 918+ which is 4 bays but similar otherwise. The best thing about the Synology is the OS; they have a very feature-complete and useful set of packages to help manage/integrate things. Drobo is hugely expensive for what you get. I've got my Synology set up to be a little home server, it's nice. It does all my media streaming, automatically downloads media that I want to watch, hosts a few local services for me like my book library, and encrypts/backs everything up to the cloud.
Whats the best anti-virus anti malware program these days? My google chrome has malware on the browser. Like everything in my fucking life my combination of operating software and version of google chrome for mac doesn't have the in browser malware option in chrome settings like my google searching says there should be. Id be willing to pay for a decent software suite but Im not really looking to for the monthly SaaS fees for one. My little brother, who's young enough, to still be tech savvy suggest wiping my whole computer as well. Suggestions? What do you guys use?
@Kubla Kahn Your Google Chrome has malware... on the browser? Can you explain what you mean? You said Mac? I recommend Windows Defender for Windows. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware has always been my go-to solution for cleaning an active malware infection, so you could download that are try it out, see if it cleans up your infection. Depending on what it finds, a computer wipe would be a next step and is never a bad preventative step. Regardless, once your computer, and especially your browser, is infected with malware, I consider all of my accounts and passwords that you've used in the recent past to be compromised. Clean the infection, either wipe your computer or don't depending on the scan results (e.g. simple adware I wouldn't bother, but if it says trojan or something I'd be concerned), and once you're clean start changing your passwords. Also consider how this happened and make sure you learn from it.
Supposedly, ESET SysRescue will work as a bootable disc on Macs, but has to be built in a Windows environment. I've never run it in MacOS, but it works very well in Windows. Same goes for Panda Security, but it seems that they actually do MacOS antivirus directly, so it may be a better choice. Like Binary said, you may be better off wiping and reinstalling. As far as browser extensions go, I run Ublock Origin and NoScript on my macs. There may be better choices, but those work for me.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a PC webcam? I was running Jabber off of my cell phone, but with me moving to WFH on a foreseeable future premises and our company encouraging us to start using Zoom, I'd rather run it off my home rig as opposed to my phone.
I have a Logitech HD 1080p that does a really good job. Probably a newer version now, but it's been solid for a few years for me.
That's what I was looking at, specifically the Logitech 920; however, it seems like EVERYONE is trying to buy them now; probably owing to the large influx of people WFH because every site I try to look at shows them all sold out. Thanks for the input though.
I'm going nuts with nothing to do. I decided to go hunt down some old PC game demos (Specifically Age of Empires, they can be played for hours)....and they don't want to install on Windows 10. I know that about a year ago I got a 2002 version of Out of the Park Baseball to run on Windows 10, but I can't remember how I did it. It took a long damn time, that's all I remember. Any suggestions?
I finally got AoE III to run last night. No idea what I did to force it to run. I will definitely remember the compatibility mode though, that would save me a lot of trial and error headaches. Thanks.
Sorry Im a casual user of my computer/iphone I apologize if I sound like a boomer who doesn't know where their download folder is (because I am rapidly approaching that level of tech knowledge). Just googling the symptoms Ive found that wording, malware/adware/whatever on the browser. So I use chrome exclusively as my web browser. Only when searching google on chrome do I get this issue. Ill google some word, say 'dog pounds near me,' the page loads with the results, and Id say 50-75% of the time the result link I click on, or the wikipedia link on the right, opens a new tab and redirects to some paid search advertisement page. I haven't entered any of my passwords or even used any sensitive sites since this has happened, Amazon, banking, etc but I do have them all saved in Chrome's password storage feature. Id like to get a decent virus/adware/malware suite but again googling it for a rube like me the options are endless and confusing with a lot of subscription based software I don't want to deal with. So Id rather see what you guys who know your shit do on a consistent basis to stay on top of these issues. As far as looking back and at what could have caused it since Ive had a long string of bad luck with computers. First college desktop was stolen 2nd year I had it, next Thinkpad laptop motherboard died in less than a year, next Gateway laptop screen hinge broke and fucked up the display in less than a year, next HP laptop bought off my brother had the graphics card burned out 2 weeks after I bought it. Since then Ive had Macbooks and done alright. My current computer I bought less than a year ago and because of my history with computers I do bare bones with it. I don't do torrenting or p2p downloading my whole computing experience is basically using Chrome. The only main thing I used outside of my internet browser is excel which I have for various task/hobbies.
