Anyway shimmered - I'd suggest both a straight and a safety - I honestly don't have time in the morning before work to shave with a straight, but using it once a week is great (and will last until tuesday-wednesday anyway if you do it sunday afternoon)
Dovo are probably the most solid brand for price v value, as you dont want cheap shit, but people occasionally fuck up their first straight (also remember you will need to buy a strop)
Merkur for the double edge - and either Merkur, Feather, or Astra for the blades - you can probably get 50-100 blades for under 30 bucks from places like classicshaving and fendrihan, Blades generally last a week or so - Feather blades don't last as long but they're the sharpest - that said Astra are almost as sharp and last longer.

It's a sharp piece of metal being scraped across your skin. It cuts the hair down to a certain length; there is no "magic" in a straight razor. The only difference is that a straight razor forces you to use a lot more care, which results in a closer shave - which you could obtain with a safety razor and the same diligence.

shimmered, new straight razors are EXPENSIVE, and a whole bunch of work. Not that you shouldn't get it for him, just make sure he'll use it. DE safety razors have a lot of the enjoyable aspects of the straight razors without the upkeep.

Blades last only a week or so? What's your beard consist of, thorns and barbed wire?

I use a merkur with feather blades and I get the closest shave I've ever had and I only have to shave about twice a week. By the 3rd shave on one blade, it starts to get a little rough and my skin might bleed in certain spots.

Since I got 50 blades for about $20, I just change the blade every 2 shaves and it's like a baby's ass.

But if you have a white trash ratty beard or grow facial hair like an Asian dude, the blade might last considerably longer.

I can empirically get a closer shave with a straight - Maybe its because I can adjust the angle with my hands better than I can with three passes with my DE, but my facial hair growth is consistant enough I can add an extra day or two to "too much shadow" with the straight. And yes you are right it requires more patience and care. I agree that a DE is a better call in practical applications, however.

I don't expect him to use it daily, mainly because he's got to shave for work every day....but I do expect that he'll use it once a week or so...

Thanks for the help guys. I know he'll definitely love and use this...it's just a matter of making sure I get the right thing.

Try amazon for DE razors. I've found huge deals on there. Dorco, gillete 7 oclock, and Feathers (though not for the faint of heart).

Ladies, I need some help. I bought this dress:
and I don't know what shoes to pair with it. The dress is a dark purple/black (the photo doesn't do the colour justice), so I'm kind of inclined to go with metallic shoes (silver, gold, something sparkly and horribly impractical), but two people have suggested black shoes instead. I'm torn and look to the resident fashionistas for advice.

I'd go with a black platform pump and then add some sparkly accessories. I'm always hesitant with sparkly shoes for fear of looking too cheap or overdone. You could get an awesome statement necklace instead.

Black would look nice, but personally I see more of a silverish shimmery shoes with it. Maybe because I don't get the opportunity to wear my blingy shoes very often that I jump on it any chance that I can. Preferably something on the more delicate side.

    Cute dress by the way!

I would do gold of some kind. Or the nude with the gold. It looks like a great warm purple.

It would probably depend on the event. Something like a black peep toe pump if it's more of a formal occasion. For something more flashy/fun (which is the whole point of heels, right?) I would go with something silver.

Nude or black. I'm not opposed to silver/gold/glittery shoes... it's just that they have to be expensive in order to avoid any hint of tacky.

I agree with what others have said about a black (could be a range of styles) or silver (something strappy) shoe, but to throw something else into the mix: If you want to do something other than a neutral, I think a light blue could be fun. It's a little hard to read the color so I don't have a more specific shade than that.

Something weird happened to me today. I'm not sure if anyone else would think it's weird, but I just need to tell someone about it. I get onto the train this morning, take a seat, and then I see that the girl sitting across from me is wearing the same outfit as me. Now, I wasn't wearing a super out-there outfit or anything, but I wasn't wearing jeans and a T-shirt. I had on a black sweater, rust-colored skinny trousers, and leopard tuxedo flats. We both noticed it and silently acknowledged each other with both admiration and slight suspicion, and I kept seeing other people notice it throughout the ride and trying to figure out if we were somehow connected. (I decided that we were an abstract art installation.) What are the odds, you know? Anyway, I thought it was neat.

Do any of y'all TiBettes have any experience with laser hair removal? Tattoo removal? Spider veins?

I'm thinking about this for business and am beginning to gather information.

What was your experience like? Did it work? How permanent was it? Would you recommend it to someone else?

The machines are expensive so I need to be careful here.

Here is the one I'm looking at:

I think the reason I don't see silver is because it makes me look bruised. Hmm. I like the black idea. And really, can you ever go wrong with a pair of black heels?
