Stupid question. I bought this dress:

I am going to get black heels to go with it. Am I limited to a matte finish or can I mix it up with a patent leather of some sort? Not sure if the two tones will work. I found a pair I love but they are 5" heels which I think are a shade too high as it's an outdoor ceremony. Plus a couple of years back I was laughing at all the people that got stuck in the torrential downpour during graduation and had to run back to their cars, so I'm pretty sure that's going to happen to me as well. So I think what I'm saying is that I will also need to be able to run in them as well. Kidding. I'd take them off and shoulder check all the weaker ones out of the way. Please.

Seriously, though, matte or shiny or doesn't matter?

That you knew where to find those makes me suspicious. And those poor hamsters.

You're supposed to take the hamsters out when you go on stage and...do things with them.

You know, I am completely comfortable with the fact that I did not know that.

My fashion sense is limited to Fashion Police. My knee jerk reaction is that if you are doing black shoes, go with matte to match. If you are doing a bright color to give it a pop, then patent leather would be fine.

Yes, go with matte unless you have another black accessory - such as a purse or handbag - that's shiny.

Thanks guys. And while the hamster shoes were tempting, I'll stick with black. I wouldn't mind a color, but it's the old black goes with everything argument. Plus I like black shoes.

If you want something you can wear again with other outfits, nude shoes is an option. That seems to be popular with celebs.

What about gold shoes? That neckline is asking for a longish gold pendant, then a thick gold cuff.

I have a pair of gold wedges I bought several years ago for an event and was surprised at how versatile they ended up being and how often I wore them.

I've considered both of those options. I like nude a lot. I've considered silver also and I already have a long silver necklace.

So many choices for what will amount to a several hour ceremony.

I'm trying to visualize nude with that block dress and it's just not doing it for me. I'd go with Mya's suggestion of gold. On the other hand, depending on how you accessorized, you could be bold and go with a pair of red shoes.

Edit: Then again, I didn't have much luck with google. I googled "red shoes" and these where the least tacky pair that came up:

(Yes, I realize that my attention to this issue as a straight guy is veering toward the creepy territory. I swear I'm just trying to help out! That and I'm at work right now and very bored.)

Haha when I posted about the nude shoes, I tried to google some examples and failed because the safesearch filtered out the word nude. I have it on because of 11 yr old kid and was too lazy to turn it off for this one search.

I don't do animal print, but I actually like Rush's suggestions the best out of all of the ones posted here.

    Work that catwalk, girl

Well, see, now I wouldn't have recommended the animal print for you.

I couldn't pull off that dress anyway, so the shoe suggestion is moot.

I was eyeing those up since that's where I got the dress!!! Which you probably knew. Either way, I liked them in the black as well.

Red was suggested in rep also.

It's for graduation though so I'm not sure if I want to go the red route, although I like it. I texted the dress and asked a friend of mine about red and she thought it would be too much. Something about slutty.

So, so far I've got black, silver, gold, leopard, nude and red, and black and gold. Pretty much anything.

Have you guy ever been in a shoe store? It's going to suck:

Which is why ordering them online would be perfect.

My vote is for a pair of those Chuck Taylors.
