Yes, Mya, 1000x yes on Michael Fassbender. As for Girls, well...I don't remember ever knowing anyone in my life as self-involved as the main character.
I'm a big fan of George Clooney, mostly in Oceans 11, 12 and 13. For some reason, he reminds me of my grandfather in those movies; very suave and charming. I also find his voice incredibly sexy. And I don't think there's anything wrong with finding a man sexy that reminds you of someone you looked up to...right, ladies?
I don't know if anyone else is reading this, but I just read the entire first book in a day and a half. I've never been so turned on by a book in my entire life. I can't put into words how amazing and dirty this book is.
Holy shit...I mentioned this book earlier in the thread. Just finished the third one today. I completely agree with you and want my own Christian Grey.
I sort of want to get this on my Kindle, but I have a hard time paying for erotic literature when there's so, so much good stuff on the web. I heard the S&M scenes weren't super awesome, either.
In all fairness, I never read erotica or anything like it before, so I didn't have anything to compare it to. I'm also not into S&M (although this book definitely put some ideas in my head), but the sex scenes mixed with the conflicting relationship they seem to have made for an interesting story. It kind of gets old by the third book, but the third one is formatted a little differently so it kept my interest.
I feel like these girls hang out with each other in the bathroom more than the average woman. I also agree that the main character is spoiled.
I liked Girls. I wasn't as blown away as much as I was expected to be by the pilot, but it hooked me enough to faithfully watch through the first season. There are two big pieces of criticism I don't agree with: -Everyone's shitting on Hannah for her entitlement and selfishness, but I don't think we're supposed to be sympathetic to her. I think Dunham's is making fun of the character as she goes through those tantrums relating to money. But, I seem to be the only one thinking that, so maybe I'm giving her too much credit? -I also read a lot of "Oh, cool, another show about young rich white people in New York when there's so much suffering in the world." Yes, I can see how it would annoy someone that the theme of "struggling while broke" is launched by being cut off by your parents at age 24 (which I think is actually a more relatable problem than people are giving it credit for - but for the record, that's not me), but I don't think every show has to be about the epitome of suffering in order for it to be entertaining and worthwhile. I think this particular slice of life hasn't been done before - or at least not as well, cough2BrokeGirlscough - and I, for one, appreciate seeing something I can personally relate to on a show. And, yes, I did really relate to it. It did feel pretty realistic to me. I've met all of those people before, and I've had most of those conversations. I was cringing through the whole internship scene because it was hitting faaarrrr too close to home. I laughed a couple of times. Also, zomg, Hannah's awful fuck buddy dude (who I've met basically every time I've socialized anywhere, but have never banged, thankfully) lives a couple blocks away from me! I'm really interested to see what actual stories will develop from here, and I also appreciate Dunham's contribution to this movement lately to portray flawed female characters. Maybe they were a bit too flawed for the pilot, but the pilot always hyperbolizes characters' personalities. The only one I really didn't like was the tracksuit wearing one, because felt a little bit too one-dimensional, although I did appreciate the little inside joke about Sex and the City after all the comparisons. I think there's room for some good character growth and development that I have faith Dunham will provide. Also, I'm hoping Jess' character gets an abortion. I've been thinking lately, has there ever been a positive portrayal of an abortion on film or in TV? All of the examples I've thought of always have the character changing her mind - Sex and the City, Juno, Blue Valentine, Mad Men - and I'm sure there are plenty more examples of characters getting punished, explicitly or implicitly, for getting an abortion. Sex and the City actually handled it very well, and I liked how they discussed Carrie's and Samantha's pretty nonjudgmentally (Carrie's struggle with guilt and regret seemed realistic to me), but they didn't show those. Can any of you think of anything that actually shows a character actually going through with it and having it portrayed as the right decision, even if it wasn't an easy one?
*crickets* I'll have to think about that one. Not off the top of my head. Interesting factoid: those shitty tattoos that Hannah is covered with? Yeah, they're Dunham's real tattoos. Yay for poorly chosen ink! And I don't get the whole bathtub scene. Never in my life - and I'll be 32 next month - have I shared a bath with another chick. I have the presumption that those who do are bisexual, at the very least.
I thought the idea of her tattoos was lovely, actually, but I couldn't get a good enough look at them to see if they were well done. They had weird placement. And I've hung out in the bathroom while my friends were in the shower but this only happens with a few friends and a) One of them has been my best friend since we were very little so we've been naked in front of each other way before it was at all stigmatized b) One of them I've had sex with c) We're all a bit sexually ambiguous anyway.
Dr. Yang on Greys Anatomy. In other news, I'm game for just about every man mentioned in this thread. My tastes are wide and varied. However, no one has mentioned our favourite porn guy, James Deen. I can't get enough of his hot ass. The best part is that I found a real life replica. My newest FWB fucks JUST LIKE HIM and has tapped into a side of me I didn't know I had. He's been away for 3 weeks, but is back and I get to see him tomorrow night. I can't wait to see what is on the menu this time.
I think I found out about James Deen from the porn thread on here. Amazing. Absolutely, blow your mind amazing. And there are so many tumblrs dedicated to him. 50 Shades was pretty good. I'm halfway through the second. I'm not as turned on by the sex scenes as I was at the start. I'm becoming kind of immune. But Christian is a very delicious character. He's like Edward from Twilight for grown ups.
Any time you have the opportunity to pay for a Twilight fanfic* with poorly written sex scenes, you have to take it. *Literally.
Despite my love of weightlifting...I got a little wrinkle nosed Monday when I got told I have "Diesel man thighs". REALLY? Sometimes I want to kick people. Other news...what do you lovelies think about heels and shorts?
I have a question for you ladies...I have naturally curly hair, but it's very fine and I've been having a thinning issue with my hair for the past year or so. I can't afford to lose much hair since it's thin already and I look like I have some tiny bald spots. I've tried Nioxin to fix it but that didn't work and I'm hesitant to try anything else because I don't want to ruin it. Also within the past year, I've noticed my nails getting brittle when I've always had strong nails. I'm sure these issues are related somehow and I'm thinking of going to the doc to have a thyroid test done. Any thoughts on what's causing this or any suggestions about which products to try?
