The Dropout on Hulu is amazing. Amanda Seyfried is crushing it as Elizabeth Holmes. Also, season 2 of Upload on Prime is also really good.
Moon Knight....meh. Weirdly, I like this character. Some of the comics portrayed him as a batshit badass, and that has some appeal. Specifically, there was a run that had him hallucinate Captain America, Wolverine and Spider-Man and advise him how to fight bad guys, which could be fucking hysterically funny and an amazing turn. Oscar Isaac definitely has the chops to pull this off, and Ethan Hawke can do creepy very well. There wasn't a second where Hawke didn't make the viewer uncomfortable. TIsaac's accent is fucking weird, though, and I could have done without it. One episode (of 6, supposedly), and...sigh. The thing with Marvel shows is they can't get the pacing right. This was 45 minutes (ish), and it could have been half that. If this was a film, the entire backstory would have been in the opening credits and maybe 10 minutes of actual runtime. I giggled at discovering the guy voicing Khonshu was in National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon (all the way back in 1990) and played the Hannibal Lecter spoof.
I watched it tonight and really enjoyed it. Almost didn't watch it based on your review. I thought the pace was fine. You're damned right about making the viewer uncomfortable. Sooo fucking creepy. Like horror movie level.
Yeah, that's probably how he leads his bio, instead of winning an Oscar for Amadeus or his Emmy noms for Homeland.
Two episodes in for me. It's fascinating and odd. I am hooked. Hubs, who has worked for a well known corporation that everyone has heard of, says it rinds him too much of work. Womp womp
Hoffman Family Gold. I'm a Gold Rush addict, I'll admit it. Those of you around here that have watched it in the past are probably more than familiar with Todd Hoffman, his dad, and the Glory Hole. I have no idea what the background politics are, but Todd is no longer on Gold Rush, even though he was one of the major forces behind its creation. Well, they're back. New show. Hoffman Family Gold. A big part of the appeal of the Hoffmans is watching them fuck up as badly as they do. It almost looks like they're leaning into that for this new show. I'm just about to watch the first episode of this new series, and was wondering if anyone else had heard of it, watched it, had an opinion.
The Girl From Plainville is pretty good so far. I had no idea this chick went to the high school my kids will go to if we stay in this town.
Id watch a show exclusively of the old man. I hated Todd with a passion and gave up on Gold Rush in season 3 or 4. There have been 26 seasons and probably 6 spin offs Im guessing. At this point Id much rather watch a good youtube channel on it that had real information instead of the beyond cooked formula of Gold Rush. The jazz bass player from season one that left the show did an interview and laid out in pretty good detail how it was all cooked. It broke the last illusion I had of that show.
