Do they still have fishbowls? Can you still ward off the College assholes? If so, we're good with that too. Hell, we don't even need one meetup, there could be several.
They still have fishbowls. Can't speak for the college crowd though (haters). Regarding my availability, I've got to move my girlfriend back down to Lincoln next weekend and I should be in the Boundary Waters sometime in September, but otherwise I'm good anytime.
I'd really love to come to this. Chicago is preferred. No way in hell you're getting my black ass into Indiana. No fucking way. Did we settle on MN or are people just reminiscing about it?
I think most of the mid-westerners that have commented so far are not just from MN, but currently located right here in the Twin Cities area.
By the time I caught wind of this thread, the Minneapolis groupthink was already in full swing. I would be totally in for a Chicago situation, and know 1 or 2 more TiB members who would be as well. But I feel like its moot at this point.
I'll try to go if it's in Minneapolis or St. Paul, but I'm busy as fuck this time of year. If it happened in the winter I definitely could make it. I'm also down for any type of hipster punching/ridiculing/drowning/lighting on fire/electrocuting. I'd just have to explain to the girlfriend why I'm driving three hours to meet up with a bunch of strangers off the internet. I'm sure she'd understand.
My vote is Chicago, near north side specifically. Mainly because I don't have a car and prefer bars within a walking distance. Seems like there is more Tibbers in MN though. If anyone wants to do a chicago meetup, I'll be at a lincoln park bar tomorrow (and every tuesday) night enjoying $2 oberon pints while they still have kegs of it. I envision meeting internet people to be super akward, but hey, if there's beer involved...
Even though I live in northern Indiana I'll say it. Nobody wants to go to Gary, its like going to a white sox game (easy to get tickets but not as good as going to a Cubs game). I doubt I can make MN but I'd consider Chicago, Indy, and even South Bend. Notre Dame fans are fun to mess with and they LOVE it when you tailgate there wearing Purdue, Michigan, MSU, or USC gear.
Hells to the no on Gary....I wouldn't stop there to ask for directions let alone hang out there. I'm in for South Bend...not a bad drive for me at all.
As someone who grew up in the region near Gary, I'm going to recommend against this. I'd recommend against northwest Indiana in general. While I do love my little corner of the state, it isn't exactly accommodating. In short: People here are giant assholes.
I'm actually in Chicago with a group of friends for a fantasy football drafter Sept 2-4. I'd say that'd be cool that weekend but I doubt I'd have time to meet up with anyone then.
I'd be willing to go to Chicago at some point for a meetup, but probably not in the near future - there are too many hipsters nearby that need dealing with NOW.
I concur. I'm down for whenever anything happens in Chicago. I don't like* any of you that much to head to another city. I don't own a car so it'd be too much work. *Kidding, I love you all.
