Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy My husband and I live about an hour outside of NOLA and have lurked since it was the old site. We always look for an excuse to go out drinking so meeting internet strangers is a perfectly acceptable one. I would be willing to help coordinate hotel rooms/restaurants/bars (and by that I mean give you my opinion on the ones I like). If this happens we would be in but with this new economy we may be driving home instead of staying in the city.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy I am not totally committed yet, the ex appears to be backing out on helping pay for an educational program for my kindergardener. That extra $300 a month might wreak havoc on my drinking fund... anyone interested in killing him for me??
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Come on down to New Orleans and we can find you a girl. Walk down Bourbon until you pass St. Ann street. At that point, just pick any bar.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Wouldn't it just be easier for everyone to rent a big house for the weekend instead of renting separate locations? Either way depending on the actual time frame/location I'd be down.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Yeah, and bring some cameras. We can pitch it to MTV as a reality show - "The Idiot World: Road Trip, NOLA."
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Where does everyone want to meet up at? I'm thinking something Irish pub style, but I'm not familiar enough with the area to suggest anything. Perhaps some of the locals could help us out here. Noland?
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy http://bulldog.draftfreak.com/ Not an Irish pub but the best thing I could think of in 30 seconds while holding two other conversations
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Bulldog is a nice bar. I was thinking the Columns Hotel on St. Charles. It's uptown and, like a lot of things in New Orleans, it's a few decades past its prime, but it has a great bar and you can sit outside. Streetcar is on St. Charles, obviously, and that will eliminate the need to drive down to the Quarter, which is, i assume, where everyone wants to end up. http://www.thecolumns.com/
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Getting a parking spot in the Quarter was something that we were concerned about. We thought about parking in the garden district or something. Street car access would make things a lot easier. How much does it cost to ride, and how late does it run?
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy So, what are the dates that people are most likely to be able to make?
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Parking in the Quarter is a mess. It's $1.25. I have no idea how late it runs. It's a pretty useless form of mass transit because it doesn't go all that many places, but it's perfect to get from St. Charles down to the Quarter. Depending on where everyone is staying a bar uptown may not be the best idea. Tujague's on Decatur is another option for the Quarter as a place to meet. Then again, you can't throw a rock in New Orleans without hitting a bar, (I shit you not, there are 4 bars within 5 blocks of my house) so the options are pretty limitless.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy The Bulldog bar/pub whatever it is looks good. It's in the garden district too, so parking would be more manageable. I just want to avoid anything too skeezy and anything too pricey. I figure a midline pub or bar would be fine. Just so long as the lighting is dim.... I look awesome in low lighting! /vanity
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy If you're looking for dank, then I am actually more familiar with dives than decent bars. Shitholes are more fun.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Double post, Woooo. The more I think about this, the more locations keep cropping up in my brain. Cooter Brown's is way the hell Uptown, but still on the streetcar route and has something like 400 different beers with 50 on tap. The Rivershack, although perilously close to Jefferson Parish (shudder) has the best Bloody Mary I've ever had anywhere. The bar at the Windsor Court (on Tchoupitoulas on the verge of the Quarter) is awesome and a friend of mine sings there on Saturday nights. Loungy kind of stuff, but she is awesome. The bar is expensive, but very nice. The Brothers III is always open to those who want a real shithole and not an ironic hipster hangout. The Half Moon is available to those who want irony. I could go on for a long time with this, but, we're talking New Orleans and I have committed a mortal sin in not asking the following question. What do you all want to eat?
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Nothing would make me happier than knowing that the New Orleans meeting was happening at a place called Cooters.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - The Big Easy Since I can't commit right now, I'm open to whatever y'all decide to do. If I can come I'll be happy with anything. Anything except a douche bar.
