Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC Hey, at least it's sterile. More on topic, I have a hard time believing you people actually want to meet up. If I came to New York, and left my friends one night to go hang out with a bunch of people I didn't know from the internet, I'd take shit for it for a long time.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC If I didn't hang out with my friends for one night, I'm pretty sure they'd be fine with it. You must have weird friends.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC I should have clarified that I don't live in NY, but spend a lot of time there visiting friends. So if I left for a night, it wouldn't work out so well. Still, your friends probably don't like you much.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC Mostly, it was a bunch of dudes wary of letting their guard down near strangers, and a bunch of women afraid to go somewhere with dudes they don't know. Sounds pretty standard to me.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC Uh...yeah, I thought it was pretty much settled. I mean, The Dude is looking into cheap airfare for 13th/14th and I totally plan on making it there (I want to drive, he wants to fly- we're continually discussing the merits of different travel methods). I am still undecided about bringing The Dude with me to our actual meetup, though. On one hand: Protection in case one of y'all turns out to be creepy. On the other hand: Exposing myself as a massive dorkasaurus. Thoughts? Either way, I'll be in NYC on the 15th of October.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC I have now survived meeting two Idiots in real life, so I'm still ready. And, if nothing else, I will be drinking with Pinkcup on the 15th. Forget the rest of you guys.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC 15th it is. Maybe we can get the thread title changed. New York is stupidly easy to get to, Audrey, MC and a bunch more already live there, other people live like a two hour ride away...there's no reason why we couldn't get decent numbers. I'm pretty comfortable meeting random people though, I guess. I've met a decent number of people from the internet (various reasons) and they've been weirdos at about the same rate as the normal population. In all honesty, the people who have expressed interest seem pretty normal, and I'd rather awkward than douchey any day.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC The weekend of the 15th coincides with the New York Comic Con as well. I went last year and it's a good event to go to for a day if you are even the least bit into comics/gaming/anime/movies. Another incentive to come down to NYC for the day if you were on the fence about doing so.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC Yeah like Nom said, I'm already here, so I'll be there whenever/wherever y'all settle on.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC There's also this happening that day for non-dweebs. I'll start looking for places.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC Indeed, one wouldn't want to walk amongst the unwashed nerd masses. Now excuse me while I make plans to hang out with my Internet message board friends.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC I'm ignoring that. Here are some places: Common Ground Lolita Professor Thom's Local 138 Puck Fair Bar The only place I've been to is Common Ground, and it's one of my favorites. But even though I'm the most important, I thought I'd see what other people's thoughts were.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC Pro-tip for non-New Yorkers visiting New York: When walking past groups of young people out at night, mention to fellow TiBers that you know a great place on Houston Street (or something along those lines), and make sure to pronounce it like the city in Texas (Hew-ston). Then watch New Yorkers flip out. Great.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC Also, refer to anywhere in the 30s or 40s as "Downtown." (And yes, those two things do drive me insane.) Edit: Oo, oo, or pronounce "Greenwich" Village like a green sandwich.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC Personally, I've never heard anyone who has spent any significant amount of time in the city call it anything other than just The Village. Another pro-tip, when the subway starts moving, fall down and then laugh at yourself. Do not make eye contact with anyone for the remainder of the trip after realizing no one is laughing with you. Also, if we go to a few different places, can we make a pit stop at McSorley's? I have been craving their cheese plate for the past week. Oh and there is no drunken munchie quite like Kati Rolls.
