Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC I will be so very, very entertained if this thing does end up being at Comic con.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! I am pouting super hard at the new thread title. Also, Pooped Cherries, that bar looks cool but it doesn't have space for private parties. This is why I appointed myself head of the party planning committee. I'll have to go there on a Wednesday one of these nights, though. Free cheese!
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! You're planning a private party room?!? This is getting serious... I'm going to have to hit the gym hard and get back my slender figure (no way in hell) in hopes I get picked to dance at the ball. Seriously though, what's a room like that cost to rent out for a night? Are there really that many interested people that there is going to be a need for a room?
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! It's not like an intense private room. They're sections in the back of cozy bars so all of our collective awkwardness can be hidden away. But, I'm not sure what the process is like to reserve them so I'm actually not promising anything. I've gone to Meetups that get something like that done, so I'm assuming if it's a lowkey place it can't be too bad. We'll see.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! I would start a poll on who was going to fuck who, but then I realized that would give me mental images. I've been to some internet meetups before, and I'll say this: the ten-percenter rule is in grand effect.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! Oh hey, I was meaning to ask you this weekend, but Houston Street...Do you people really call it House-ton Street? Seriously? And I could see the Greenwich thing, that was no big deal.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! It's not named after Sam Hew-ston. It's named after William House-ton.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! You guys are weird anyway. At least I got used to waking around the city...and the people at the bars all seemed legit, especially after the hurricane when few and far between places were open for me to drink on a Sunday.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC Especially because the people most likely to flip out are transplants who become fiercely smug about things basically as soon as they learn them. And yeah, house-ton. Makes as little sense as "wusta." I mean, what is that about? I make a point to pronounce ever syllable in a British accent. Dibs on MoreCowbell if nobody else has called him.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! Thanks to my lingering occasional Boston accent that I picked up there, I sometimes pronounce "Worster St" as "Wusta St" and it makes me so upset. What's the ten-percenter rule?
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! 85% don't know the truth, 10% know the truth but preach the exact opposite, 5% know the truth and preach it. From a nation of islam offshoot's material http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nation ... and_Earths - lots about the man trying to keep people down. On the intarwebs it translates to 85% of the participating population are cattle, moving wherever the herd moves or moving the wrong way due to ignorance. 10% of participants are trolls, who get 'it' but think is funny to herd the crowd towards something stupid. 5% get 'it' and say something sensible. Which of the three groups you reside in changes over time and in relation to any given topic, and is always highly subjective.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! I'll start taking a look at some decently priced hotels and post some options on here for outsiders. I sure as hell am not drunkenly taking the train back to New Haven.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! Does anybody else think it's funny that two mods nowhere near NYC that have already met people off this place are trolling this thread and mocking its awkwardness? I'm tentatively in.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! Alright, we have the private party section of Common Ground booked for the 15th from 8-11. (Obviously, we can stay there later and/or go somewhere else, but it seemed like a good time period to get everyone in one place at least.) Disclaimer: Booking the space was free, but if someone else expresses interest in the same date and time, he's going to ask for "a small deposit" to keep the space. If the deposit's not very small in my frame of reference I may have to just give it up unless someone else wants to pay it.
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! The fact that anyone was even joking about attending Comic-Con almost makes me not want to go. But free maybe sort of private probably shitty anyway room! How do you even beat that?
Re: TiB Meet-Up - NYC - 15 October @ Comic-Con! Read the tuckerfest story in AFF. I have a feeling that it is the most accurate tucker max story ever told. There is a reason they are trolling you.
I'm going to tell everyone at the bar that I met these people on the internet. If that doesnt get me laid I dont know what will.
Bragging about your rep, obviously. Just curious- am I the only person planning on bringing a significant other? I don't want him to be the only non-TiBer there...this shit is going to be awkward enough as is.
Not a significant other, but I am planning on bringing a ladyfriend as an escape plan in case things are really horrifying. Not to say I expect it...I expect it to be just fine but you know, just in case.
