That's actually a pretty good success for just going out on a random night. You pushed your boundaries, met a few people, had successful social interactions with them, left before it got too awkward, and it didn't put you off the experience for life.

This reminds me of something Richard Feynman said: a lot of people were always asking to go out with him after hearing his fantastic stories about the wacky shit that would happen. Then they'd go out one night with him, and nothing very wacky would happen, and they'd be like "what gives?" And he'd tell them "look, I don't get one new story every night. Sometimes you have to go out every night for weeks before anything interesting happens." It's OK, you're doing fine.

On another note, inspired by ssycko up there, anyone up for an Internet game of never have I ever? I have a fairly full bottle of Captain Morgan's in the cabinet gathering dust.

You absolutely should have done that! While it might have seemed like pandering/fishing, someone in the group, maybe that socially awkward girl at the end of the table, would have been like "Hey! Why not stay for one more drink?!" in which case you could have offered to play some darts with her or something. Or you could have attracted the attention of the lone single guy in the group who would rather ditch all the couples and go scoping for chicks at a bar down the block. Even if they'd all waved you off (highly unlikely in a big group - someone probably enjoyed your company), you should have left, secure in the knowledge that you'd tried.

Or some ridiculous bullshit like that.

 

Truth or dare Jenga is the devil. I made the mistake of writing "Eat a spoonful of (clean) cat litter" on one of the blank ones. Then I drew it. Then, because I figured it would be like sand or something, I tried. Shoulda taken the goddamned shot. You know how cat litter is designed to clump together when the cat pisses in it? Yeah, works on any kind of moisture really. And that shit is ALL chemicals. I put the spoon in my mouth and immediately rocket vomited for about 5 minutes.

I straight up slept through the going away party I was supposed to go to tonight. The golf tournament I helped with today was good, it wasn't too hot and I had a very large cooler of beer with me at all times. I was selling tickets on a Par 3 for a trip and one old guy said he didn't want a trip but he sure could use a lap dance. I kindly informed him that he didn't have enough money.

 

I feel like a pussy saying this, but college can be lonely at first. But then you make friends. I don't know what your situation is. You said orientation but you're old enough to get into a bar. Are you a freshman that's starting late? The first few months sucked for me but after that I had so much fun I wouldn't trade for anything. I'm about to start as a sophomore again in a week. I wish I could have just stayed there the whole summer.

Anyways, you probably won't make that many friends at orientation. You might meet one or two, but not a whole bunch right off the bat. Start with your roommates and people in your classes, then network out from there. Also, I don't know what your game is like, but when you start fucking a girl you meet a whole bunch of people. Girls know like 10x more people than guys do. Do you know anyone there? People say don't go to school with your buddies, but I disagree %100. I went to the same school as my best friend from childhood. It's nice to have someone to hang out with when you're lonely and don't know anyone else and I still met a bunch of people. But after like the first semester you'll have some friends. Those first four months feel like an eternity and suck. But during that time you're slowly making connections and meeting new people. The first semester I just wanted to go home and go to community college. The second semester I didn't want to leave even for summer break. Maybe you'll even make friends faster than I did. But you can't expect to know everyone in just a few weeks. I know that much.

I feel like I need to change my tampon now. I hope that helped.

 

Hey man, you speak the truth. I was lonely as fuck my first couple of weeks at university, but that faded as I eventually made friends with those in my classes, at work, and in a few clubs and groups I took part in.

Took about a month before I had my shit together and was living the life, but I figure my experience was a bit different since no one expects to see a native in university around here. Probably shocked them a bit.

 

I was also homesick too. That didn't help. I just kept logging in to my facebook seeing all my high school friends at parties having fun when I knew no one and wasn't doing shit. I wanted to go back home, but I figured I would give it a whole year because I knew that was common and people regret it. At the time another four months seemed like a life sentence. But I went home for Christmas and came back. And now I'm glad I didn't just give up half way through.

 

I'm about to start grad school in South Carolina. I'm not too worried about making friends in the long run. I've been here before at the beginning of undergrad, when I transferred, and when I studied abroad. I've always done fine. The experiment was the going out alone thing. After reading some of the feedback I'd like to try it again, but at the same time I'm pretty sure I wont for a while. I mean who would go out alone when they know people who want to do something, right?

Here's to the hopes of there being lots of good looking women-folk in my program.
