You know you can turn all avatars off, right? I find it to be boring myself and I associate people with their avatars so without them, I actually have to look at the person's name (WAAH!) but whatevs.

 

We don't have anything tracking us.

Our IT department is 2 women in their 60s. I don't even think they understand the internet. Our internal order and accounting system still runs on Dos. How old is it you wonder? Well, 1986 was when the system was put together.

The thing is, if my boss is standing over my shoulder, he can see a bouncing tit .gif avatar, not the text with some guy talking about how he ran train on some bar skank.

 

That is exactly it. The avatar is what makes the person on TiB.

Seriously. When I changed mine to the bird from up, I had a bunch of people bitching at me to change it back because they can't handle not seeing the old man with an accordion.

 

Well Youtube videos are a special case, as they only download the preview picture of the video and the title, but won't download the actual content until you hit the play button. So everybody in IT knows you're looking at a site that features a chimp raping a frog, but that you were tasteful enough not to play it at work. If that's any consolation.

I could tell by just the hair. I was out in San Jose last night, and it was asian central. I was the tallest person by about 6 inches in several bars.

Well said, cow hunter. I have kept the Johnny Cash avatar from the very beginning because I want him to be remembered. He died and became immortal. He has touched more lives than most of us assholes ever will. An avatar can actually mean something to people, even if they don't understand it initially.
Also, we humans are really just animals, and associating a picture with a person is a natural reaction. How many of y'all were surprised when you viewed the Boobie/Bootie/Beard threads and thought "I didn't think he/she looked like that!"

So, wonderful me makes a scene for the ages tonight at softball. I fucking flat out fainted (don't aske me why) running around third and went into the soft, forgiving gravel head first without bracing myself. I have road rash gashes all over my arms and leg that hurt like a bitch and I look like Ashy Larry. I wish I could see what happened to me but have no recollection, thought my friend said it was the "greatest thing he's ever seen in his life" between fits of laughter.
