All the big department stores are putting out their Christmas shit already... right next to the Halloween shit. They used to at least wait until the day after. I can't wait for Christmas. (Even though I'll be celebrating by freezing my tits off in Minnesota.)
My first memory of RMMB was reading SLF e-bitchslapping and laying the banhammer down on a guy that was arguing with him over whether or not you could get a jet to take off a giant treadmill. Good times.
I had a PM discussion with SLF on the same subject. I gave up trying to explain why it would take off when it became obvious she was never going to understand. SLF was female, right?
I vaguely remember that argument. Someone please tell me that SLF was arguing that it couldn't be done? Please?
Wait what? How would it take off without any air rushing through the wings? If it was possible, why would they built those big ass aircraft carriers?
Hint: The airplane's forward motion is caused by the engines, and the friction of the wheels is basically neglible. As soon as you start them both, the airplane will start moving forward, and will take off given a big enough treadmill. I have this bad habit of sugar binge'ing while I drink, so I'm not drinking and I am trying to avoid all sweets. It just sucks because I have a Halloween party Saturday and guess what I'm serving? Brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and spiked punch. I need to borrow some self discipline for the weekend...
Yup. At the risk of turning this into the treadmill thread . . . To answer your questions, it won't "take off" without air rushing across the wings (or the wings rushing through the air). But, the blog and video show that the treadmill matching speed won't prevent the plane from moving forward, and therefore having the wings rush through the air. And, they tie those planes down on aircraft carriers because wind can create lift. But, lift and taking off are two different things. Thrust is required for taking off, not just lift. (And, the treadmill can't prevent the plane from generating enough thrust since it is created with the prop in the air, not drive friction in the wheels.)
A local hot wings restaurant posted this on facebook: There should be a form of trick-or-treating for adults. We'd call it "liquor treating" and everyone would get mini bottles of liquor. Indeed.
Sorry to double post this, but in case anyone cares that doesn't check the workout thread: It's back up, but like with TIB I had to do a full system restart, for some reason clearing cache, cookies and history didn't do the trick.
Honestly restarting is just as fast for me, this puppy runs like a dream. Which is shocking because I'm a moron with computers and it's over two years old.
Just admit it, the only reason it still works so well is because you visit 2 websites: TiB and your email account. Actually that thought probably doesn't hold much water. The elderly in my family with computers seem to fuck theirs up much worse than the people who know how to do a thing or two.
