    I feel like there needs to be a barometer in place, of some kind, that will determine when affirmative action has done its "job." Because I've yet to see it defined - anywhere - what the mark of a successful campaign would look like. Just as privileged white people are reluctant to give up their undeserved sources of wealth and social advantage (and let's be real here: they do exist), various minorities will be equally reluctant when the day arrives - and it will, someday - to finally pull the plug on AA, once the playing field becomes "level."

    The question is, will we (as a whole) recognize that time when it comes and act accordingly in the name of equality, or will we instead revert to the the age-old "this is how things have always been" nonsense that we're all so good at, and keep the system in place beyond its intended shelf life (whenever that may be)? It wouldn't be the first time that bureaucracy has failed us...

    Having said that (and I mean this in all sincerity), the day this joke stops being funny, will be an indicator that we've reached some sort of equilibrium:

    I can't keep saying this. I am NOT advocating affirmative action. But some of the arguments against it that have presented here smack of ignorance. They present a "woe is me" attitude about the thing that is, frankly, absurd. For all the possible reasons that AA should not exist, its negative effect on the largest, most privileged class of individuals ever to walk the earth is not one of them. White people are not the victims here.

    Aren't you from Boston? Shouldn't you be out slamming a black guy's head through a plate glass window while wearing a Byrd jersey?

    You know, you have a right to your opinion. And it could very well be right, what the heck do I know? And I'm sure in your normal life you're a cool, well-adjusted dude. But on this board you have some serious racial/sexual shit going on, and while any particular post doesn't really mean anything, a consistent history of them kind of suggests something, no?

    Perhaps you don't really get what I'm talking about. This is just a random selection, and I only went through like 50 posts. I also skipped a bunch that were about basketball. I'm not calling you racist, or suggesting that you sleep with your copy of IHTSBIH under Roissy bedsheets, just pointing out some quotes that might help you understand the context your statements are in.

    (Kind of like how everything I say now makes me seem like a woman.)
