Nobody's doing any work right now because everybody's is fighting over my welding helmet. It's peaking here in 10 minutes.
I'm at the lake with the family, armed with eclipse glasses and pinhole projectors. We had a good view of the onset, about 10-20% transit. Unfortunately the light fluffy clouds are rolling through. It's a beautiful day out, but not ideal for viewing.
We had about 92%. I think you need the max for it to really get dark. The clouds were covering it here, but it actually worked out well because it was just thin enough that you could still see it, but it was much less blinding.
We had 92% here. It got a little bit cooler. You couldn't tell anything was up unless you had the glasses. That was the strangest thing to me. I probably lost vision for nothing. Over all it gets a solid meh for the experience. It gets a thumbs up for wasting company time.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT GUYS THAT WAS SO FUCKING AMAZING AHAHHHHHHHHH Clouds were off and on. And RIGHT at totality - clear fucking skies. Two minutes of awesomeness. Even the most grumpy coworkers were excited. It's amazing how "hazy" it gets, and still is. With just half the sun covered the world is several shades darker. If I look to the east you can still tell the shadows are moving on and we're still in a little of it. And Shadow snakes are real! Seriously been waiting five years for this. I'm pumped we get two more in my lifetime.
That was very cool at 75%. We had basically a crescent sun, and it turns out phone cameras don't take a good photo through welding glass. Only under the "Totality" will it get dark, almost like night and it fucks up the nocturnal animals. That being said, an awesome phenomena and I got to see it for real. See you in 2024.
In Northern CA, so about ~75%. It was pretty cool, sitting inside it looked like a cloudy day outside but no clouds in the sky. Geeked me out enough that I really want to see 100% coverage.
Yeah, at totality we heard a lot of cicadas, but we were at a parking lot outside the store, so not much nature to see. One really confused bird flying around - or it might've been a bat.
If, after everything, the Trump presidency ended because he went blind staring into the sun I would never stop laughing: Spoiler
Yeah I went up to the library and get to wear the glasses for 5 minutes during it peak for our time. Certainly a huge fucking difference betwen the pinhole projections and getting a straight on look with the glasses. Cool to see all of the little pinholes from tree leaves turn into eclipses.
It's pretty cool that we, as a society, despite all the doom and gloom being reported, have gone from viewing eclipses as something that signalled the end of the world, to something to be chased and celebrated.
So eerie. To think we only have half a billion or so years left of these things before the moon falls out of orbit. Surfing will also suck then. Alt Focus: what's the coolest cosmic phenomenon you've seen? For me it was the Great Comet back in 1996 (Hale-Bopp) which was a massive and incredible heavenly body in the night sky for at least 18 months. Blew Haley's Comet away., which I also saw as a kid.
I held my glasses over my phone and snapped this, then zoomed in to crop. Sucky photo, but cool remembrance. About 20 minutes after the peak. Bill Withers, Ain't No Sunshine was playing. Good times.
