Don't see it as derailing the thread, personally... interesting and thoughtful, even respectful discussion on things go a long way.
Anything with Regis Philbin or Bobby Flay. I would love to make a Real Housewives of Newark, New Jersey. A group of black women, coming home to the 'hood after working a 10 hour shift at [insert shitty job here] and bitching out their drunk/stoned unemployed husbands and smacking the crap out of their 14 kids and 23 grandkids that all live in the same apartment. Real reality TV.
Weeds: Watched a couple minutes of a few episodes and didn't laugh at all. I can't stand the actress who plays the main character of the show. She's awful.
Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia I thought for sure I was going to love this show as much as people go on and on about it. I watched 3 Seasons over the weekend amidst drunkenness. Fucking. Awful. I chuckled a couple of times but for the most part ended up irritated with Charlie's high pitched yelling voice. Danny Devito was entertaining as were the McFoyles or whatever, but the rest of it? Crap. Fucking. Crap. Maybe I need to be high or be watching it with other people but for the most part, it fucking sucked.
Master Chef - You're not master chefs. You're at best, talented first year apprentices. Shut the fuck up. Any talent show with douche judges - I hope they all get cancer. Glee - I like fucking musical theater - but why, for the love of fucking god why is this shit on television? The Amazing Race - one of my coworkers downloads the fucking episodes to watch again. What.the.fuck. Survivor - who the fuck actually watched this? Lost - Season 1 was ok, after that it was like sticking a blender wand in my eye. ugh.
Used to love House for the dialogue, but it has officially jumped the shark. Do glee clubs even exist in American schools anymore? Isn't that what choir and the drama department are for? Never understood the appeal of the Big Bang Theory. Bunch of nerds hanging out with a hot chick requires far more suspension of disbelief than I am capable of. I tried watching True Blood but the dialogue is awful. And the way Bill delivers his lines is just annoying. Also, why watch True Blood when I can get porn for free online? Arrested Development is overrated. Yeah, I said it. The Sopranos was boring.
I'm throwing my hat in the ring for True Blood. I'm about half-way through season 2 and I can't bear to watch it anymore. The acting is terrible, the accents are pitiful, every character is terribly self-centered and shallow and that succubus lady thing there makes me want to punch her in her oversized teeth. Plus, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but there is too much sex. We get it, everyone likes to scrump. Get on with other things. Also, and I suspect I'll get some flack for this but I have never liked Family Guy. I'm sure some will say I just don't "get it" but I think it is unfunny and vile and ridiculously stupid. Ditto for South Park but there were a few truly hilarious episodes from the first season. Once the newness wore off, it was crap. I second Burn Notice but only because Michael Weston is one butt ugly motherfucker. Granted, the chick isn't a stunner herself but he makes me physically recoil whenever he flashes on the screen. Not even Bruce Campbell's presence will make me want to watch that show, and I've asked the man to marry me. In person. (He said no.) And also, I have a pathological hatred for Sharon Gless. Something about her makes me twitchy with rage. I can't put my finger on it.
Not from me. I've enjoyed maybe ten total minutes of McFartlane's oeuvre. I guess the decline of The Simpsons convinced everyone that that "fast-paced, tasteless surrealism with relentless pop-culture references" is the same thing as "satire."
I tried to watch Californication yesterday. I couldn't get more than ten minutes through, it was so awful. The conversations were completely unnatural, the dialogue was horribly contrived, people's reactions to circumstances were far fetched - it just sucked all around. I'll probably give it another try later, but I was shocked at how terrible it was considering everyone I know gives it rave reviews. It was like the show was saying, 'people are having sex, so you should enjoy this.' I agree about Family Guy. It think it says something about the maturity and intelligence of Americans today that this passes for quality humor. I'm going to throw the Daily Show in there as well. This show used to be awesome before it became too political. Now its main purpose is to allow stupid liberals under 30 to masturbate to some jackass slandering conservative politics. I don't mind hating on a political party because I'm moderate, but that's all this show was last time I watched it. Ok, I guess this isn't the worst out there, but it just pisses me off because it used to be so much better. Everybody Loves Raymond is the worst television show I've ever seen. Every episode is exactly the same. Wife gets mad at husband. Husband cowers. They reconcile. Then the parents come over and annoy them throughout. I have no idea how this got so popular. For those of you that don't like The Sopranos, all I can say is that your taste sucks. I defy anyone to name a television show or movie that captured American culture so well. Or a show that was as clever at weaving subtle humor into the plot. I got a little annoyed at some of the long dream sequences when the writers tried to get too artsy (I watched for the crime and genre, I don't need entire episodes just for reflection). Still, this is one of the best television shows ever made. A lot of critics would put it right at the top spot.
We already have this thread floating around somewhere, but why not. I liked Arrested Development, liked, not loved. I understand why it got canceled, and I'm not upset over it in the least. Anything on the Food Network. I understand that they're aiming at the "everyman" demographic, but as the great philosopher Bourdain said, "mediocrity is not okay." True Blood is just awful. The dialogue is bad, the plot lines are derivative, and the actor who plays Bill has awful delivery. Plus, why would I watch True Blood's version of amateur porn when I can get free hardcore porn online? I'm torn on House. The first season was great but the writers are having a really hard time keeping the show fresh and interesting. First they tried to bring in outside villains, i.e., Tritter and Vogler. They brought in his ex-wife. And now the Cuddy romance. It's time to end the show and let Hugh Laurie move on. I'd love to see him go back to comedy.
Are you drunk? What is your feeling on The Big Bang Theory and The Sopranos? Focus: Seinfeld. I can't stand that show, everything about it is just plain annoying.
Its been mentioned, but Glee. I have never seen such whiny melodramatic crap in my entire life. Every 20-something woman I know watches this show and I cannot comprehend it. Ive seen a handful of episodes to give it the benefit of the doubt but each episode seems to have a social/political agenda and the plots are utter nonsense. My favorite argument I hear for why I should watch it? "The songs are really good though like omg!!!11" Really? Thanks, but no thanks. If I want to hear music Ill fire up iTunes. Eastbound and Down. Danny McBride really isnt that funny and the characters are annoying as hell. Worst show on HBO right now. Friends. For every reason already mentioned. Colbert Report. This show was funny for about 10 minutes and the schtick wore out quickly. We get it, youre parodying conversative commentators. Movin' on.
I enjoyed it well enough and I love Matthew Perry as an actor. One thing that was kind of amusing to track over the years, especially obvious if you catch reruns from different time periods, is how the character of Joey changed. It wasn't character development, they just changed him to be more and more of a charicature of buffoonery as time went on which was usually just for a cheap laugh. But, overall, it was an amusing half-hour where the only regular character I really couldn't stand was Pheobe (spelling?) and I was glad when they focused on anything but her.
That is also what they did to Eric Matthews on Boy Meets World. When I read that I couldn't help but point this out.
Seinfeld I've tried many times in my life to watch this show and can not stand it. At all, ever. Jerry Seinfeld just does nothing for me, the supporting cast were even worse. Thats the only glaring TV show that I hate.
