I don't want to derail the thread, but I'm a nerd for this sort of stuff. This is what I've heard, but haven't had corroborated, so make of it what you will: - Battle swords, and similar weapons, were blunt and heavy in most European combat settings when heavy armour was prevalent. They were blunt because a sharp weapon that penetrated would get stuck, and you'd be weaponless. They were heavy because their primary focus was to knock the opponent other. In heavy armour they struggled, or were not able, to get up. Servants then mopped up by coming in and stabbing the downed opponent in the unarmoured places to finish them off. Not exactly Hollywood worthy, which explains why that's left out. - Apparently, people were shorter and stockier. But, more important than that, the insertion points for their tendons were different which created shorter 'levers' for muscle movement of bones which gave them greater strength. So, while smaller they were a lot stronger. Or it could just be bullshit. I dunno.
This is all so wrong I don't even know where to start, swords became more orientated to the thrust, to allow the attacker to penetrate "weaker" sections. As armour developed even further percussion weapons delegated the sword to the role of a sidearm that was mainly handy for cutting up peasants, a sword would be next to useless against a full harness of 15th century plate armour. In a well made suit of armour you could jog, jump up and down and generally do anything you could do without it, except for being killed by arrows and swords, its why people liked it so much. And why the fuck would you want to kill a knight? You could ransom him for the equivalent of millions in today’s currency. Ah yeah, its total bullshit, this was only 500 years ago man, not 100,000, you don't get much evolution over half a millennia. I don't know why there is such a misconception of 15th century Europeans as being lumbering idiots with no martial skill who hacked at each other hoping to get lucky where as Japanese Samurai were this ultimate fighting machine with magic weapons. A 15th century French knight would walk through a Samurai like a Sherman tank through light cavalry.

I don't think I ever looked forward to a documentry before but this looks good. A friend of mine read the book and said it was phenomenal. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=63086" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=63086</a>
<a class="postlink" href="http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/red.html?showVideo=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/red.html?showVideo=1</a> Red, featuring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Mary Louise Parker and Helen Miren, based on a DC Comic book. I would say it looks like the Losers when they reach retirement age.
You forget John Malkovich, probably the greatest single reason to watch it. The trailer looks decent; if they treat the premise and story with a sense of humor (as they should), it could be a very entertaining movie.
The Social Network trailer - The subject matter seems awful. However, it's directed by David Fincher , the script was written by Aaron Sorkin and it's being produced by Kevin Spacey. Supposed to be a dark comedy. Buried trailer - Ryan Reynolds plays a guy buried alive in the Iraqi desert. Supposed to be pretty thrilling and awful for claustrophobics. I like Reynolds and it's nice seeing him do something other than dumb rom-coms.
We all know it is going to end in two parts and this is footage from both movies according to the link. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.cinemablend.com/new/First-Trailer-For-Let-Me-In-So-Far-So-Good-19346.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.cinemablend.com/new/First-Tr ... 19346.html</a> I loved the original, hopefully the remake is just as good if not better. Maybe my friends will actually watch this version instead of bitching about reading subtitles.
Jesus christ really? That trailer (and yes, admittedly it is just a trailer meant to get an American audience excited) looks nothing like the original film whatsoever. The first film brooded the whole way through, one of its strong points, and frankly I don't see "vaguely threatening" or a "hint of violence" happening at all in this new one. Maybe I'm an idiot (possible) or drunk (more possible) but the "feel" of the first one, however you want to define it, does not make an appearance in this new trailer at all.
I will go one step further than Sam N; that trailer fucking sucked, and successfully convinced me not to watch this probably crappy remake. Good God was that awful. The first 30 seconds were thoroughly mediocre, but then the finale, with the awful angsty rock, and the lame child whispers about "evil" and "vampires" was grossly pathetic. Oh, and anyone who reads online movie sites can cross Cinemablend off their list. Their writers are either morons or industry shills, and likely both.
It's going to suck, or be a catastrophic rip-off. Either way, it's utterly and completely unecessary to remake a film that not only was only released 2 years ago, but recieved enough acclaim and attention by the world that...FUCK I hate Hollywood sometimes. The original Let The Right One In was the best vampire movie since Bram Stoker's Dracula. Wholey original, in an ordinary backdrop with horror scenes that are carried out in such leisurely fashion that they actually amplify their value when they happen. Hollywood will NOT LET THAT HAPPEN. You know for a fact they'll get glossy and tone it down, which is what Hollywood does so well. Ruining things. New question: Does anybody know if or when Solomon Kane is getting a North American release (or did I completely miss it)? The movie looks fucking awesome and it's been heavily delayed.
Be prepared to hate Hollywood a little more; <a class="postlink" href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1568346/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1568346/</a> The original Swedish "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was playing in US theaters for a large part of 2009 AND 2010, made $6 million here, (a lot considering its limited release) was a huge hit internationally, and I have pre-ordered the DVD, which appears to be selling well. And less than two years later, they want to release a completely pointless US remake? It's already available on DVD.
Though I disagree slightly on how awesome the original was (though that has more to do with me reading the book before seeing the movie), what I thought the first movie lacked has not (seemingly from the trailer) been adressed in this movie. Instead they've added a gothy twilight feel and crappy music. Yay once more for hollywood. If they want to do a serious remake, look to the book, not the first film. The way the Coen Brothers are doing with True Grit. Had the choice been to make a vampire movie that reflected the book, in that for most of the characters life is shitty and a vampire is far from their worst issue. The setting of bullying, poverty, alcoholism and drug use, easily transcends a swedish "ghetto" in the 80s to american rustbelt town hit hard by the financial crisis. But somehow I think this is not the case...
I really hope there's a lot of Thompson and Fear and Loathing refrences throughout. Animation almost looks as flawless as a pixar film
I have no idea what to expect from this movie. The first trailer, and by far my favorite, made it out to be a comedy making fun of the sort of the movies the trailer you posted makes it out to be. Another trailer portrayed the movie as a politically energized attack of immigration laws and legislation. At least Rodriguez has said that version was a joke he apparently came up with after drinking too much tequila. I'm probably still going to see this movie because if it matches the first trailer the pay off could be amazing. The first time I saw it, me and my friend insantly agreed to go the moment it came out. Now, it looks like it might just turn out to be your standard run of mill action flick with a few A-list actors.
This looks like it could be fun. I quite liked the Directors earlier B grade horror movie Dog Soldiers.
