This is, by and large, a reboot/remake of one of the best modern horror films ever made. Except it’s written by Jordan Peel, and Tony Todd will once play the title role (Nobody but him should play Candyman).
Oh man, pumped for this one. Peel is a master of suspense and looking forward to see his take on it. I saw the original Candyman when I was 13/14 and it scared the shit outta me. After the movie I went home and tried to say "Candyman" three times in front of the mirror. Pussed out after the 2nd Candyman.
Jordan Peele is iffy. Some of his stuff is fantastic (Us, Get Out). Other stuff not so much, like the new Twilight Zone. Glad Tony Todd is coming back though.
Reading in it now, this is a “jump sequel” like last year’s very good “Halloween” was: erase the bullshit and pay homage to the GOOD film in the series. “Get Out” was a masterfully sharp social satire. As a horror movie, it was as scary as a white funk band. I was laughing at what failures the “scares” were in it. It might be the least scary horror film ever made.
In addition to Tony Todd coming back, I thought I heard bits and pieces of Philip Glass's score in the background. That's probably one of my favorite parts of the original film, so I'm hoping that it's used prominently again.
I've liked Shia LaBeouf a lot more since Peanut Butter Falcon and Honey Boy. This looks like it has potential.
wtf Is this a hostage rescue movie, a fighting against terrorists/militia movie, or a wild animal killing people movie?
So many questions: 1) Who would write this horseshit? 2) Who would green light this horseshit? 3) Who fronted the money for this horseshit? 4) Why weren’t all those people just mentioned put against a wall and shot? But hey..... it’s not a superhero or cop movie, so it’s “original”.
Oh look, they completed the special effects this time. ....the burning question is, will this somehow make it less terrible?
Not at all - this is loosely the plot of Predator. Commando team enters the jungle on a mission, accomplishes part of said mission before encountering a non-human threat that leaves them fighting to survive. Jacked up animals instead of aliens, and with less steroids.
