Very funny and clever video, and he's absolutely right about the death of legitimate action films in Hollywood. That trailer got me significantly more hyped than the main "Expendables" teaser itself.
Excited for The Social Network, the story of Facebook. It probably won't do well since it's not a romantic comedy or family film, but it will be a nice break from sequels and remakes.
I didn't know Starz had made Pillars of the Earth into a mini-series, and I don't know if it can do the book justice. Starts 7/23. http://www.starz.com/originals/thepillarsoftheearth/screeningroom#/the-pillars-of-the-earth-trailer/
I wonder if this is going to be on netflix instant queue like Spartacus blood and sand? Anyone know for sure?
Gladiator meets Robin Hood. Could be interesting, could suck more than some people's moms. Hit or Miss, imo. I'll wait for reviews, disregard them, and watch it on Bluray. Saw this preview in the theater today. As soon as Affleck said lemme buy you... whatever it was, I knew he was one of the bank robbers. Granted, that's revealed in the trailer as well, but if they're that transparent with their trailer, how easy is the movie gonna be to figure out? Great cast, though. Affleck, Renner, Hamm. Another Bluray watch.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is rumored to be cast as the Riddler in the next Batman sequel. I've got new respect for the kid who first appeared as that pony-tailed asshat on 3rd Rock From the Sun
Supposedly the Atlas Shrugged movie is happening, and it's going to be a trilogy. It's going to be a low budget film though (at least the first part). There was a ton of discussion about this on the old board. I really want it to be good, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
I laughed at the cast list. It's being directed by the guy who was the star of "One Tree Hill", and who also plays John Galt. In fact, the entire cast is filled with soap opera eye candy with no acting ability, and helmed by someone who has never directed a feature length film in his life. (And he's 46, so this isn't some young Scorsese, PTA, or whatever) Worst of all, the screenwriter has only penned cheap, crappy, mass-produced horror films in his career. Gems such as Evilution, Basement Jack, and Cemetary Gates, all of which have IMDB scores between 3.8 and 4.2. (Hard to do!) I guess Hollywood decided that instead of refusing to adapt the second highest selling book of all time (which runs counter to their politics), they would rather make a low budget insult that makes a small profit due to the novel's fans. (A $5 million budget! That's less than Tucker's film!) Fucking pathetic. This article sums it up quite well.
That's a great article. As soon as I saw the director was also the male lead, I became skeptical. The entire cast is wrong. Even more shocking than the budget is hearing they had 5 weeks to film. I could play the optimist and think "well maybe the first installment will be great, and then major studios will throw a ton of money at the rest ala Twilight" but that's just not me.
Is it just me or did they get the John Galt and the James Taggart actors backwards? I guess if I was running the show I wouldn't choose to be that fucking slime ball either.
Forgot about this until I got a rep comment frome lust4life. So I looked into it and found out that it will be streaming on 7/24/2010, So tomorrow. Looks interesting and cant wait to watch.
Restrepo I'm not sure if it fits the bill of "upcoming", because it seems to be on a very limited release and it won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in Documentary, but I figured at least some of you have not heard about it and it looks too compelling not to share. If this post doesn't belong here I apologize. Here is the IMDB page. The description from Wikipedia: Trailer: Second trailer which is pretty much the same: Spoiler A couple more links for good measure: The film's Rotten Tomatoes page Roger Ebert's review where he gives it 4 stars. The film's Sundance page which has a short interview with the directors
Here's the new trailer for The Social Network. Am I the only one here who thinks this could be amazing? On a side note, that cover of "Creep" is absolutely fantastic.
I have high hopes for the film due to its Hollywood pedigree (Fincher directing, screenplay by Sorkin). However, every trailer I've seen portrays it as some kind of tense drama, but I saw an interview saying it's more of a dark comedy. So I really don't know what to think of it. I have a feeling they were trying to straddle between the two, and it just didn't happen. I'll be going to see it regardless.
Agreed I will go see this movie as well because I am a big David Fincher fan. The problem I have is teh main character played by Eisenberg. Eisenberg is a 50/50 for me I enjoyed Zombieland but in all honesty I hated adventureland despite all its rave reviews it just pissed me off and was unfunny to me. We'll see where it goes I really hope its good. Plus Joseph Mazzello (Tim from Jurassic park and more recently Sledge from The Pacific) is in it.
Stone with Edward Norton and Robert Deniro I busted out laughing when I first saw Norton's wigger act. I don't know about this one. I love both actors' work, but I can't get past Norton's character. It's almost comedic. We'll see.
