First off, it looks pretty fun so I'm down. That aside, hilarious that they are, again, making the guy with weather equipment and Doppler radar the bad guy in favor of the guy that knows when one is coming.
In the original, Cary Ewels character wasn't the bad guy because of his fancy equipment, Paxton's team had equipment. It was because he stole the idea of Dorothy and used that to secure funding. Then he followed all his fancy equipment and the information it provided to him to an early, brutal death, because he didn't have a 'feel' for what the storms would do. I'm also down. The original was awesome in the theater, it was great on the big screen with proper sound.
Twister was CGI Porn in the era that called for it. He was the bad guy because he had sinister black vehicles and his yes-men laughed whenever he laughed. Take away the special effects, and you have one of the lamest movies of the 90’s. Bill Paxton was head and shoulders above everyone (the cast had Helen Hunt and Philip Seymour Hoffman) and he barely kept his head above water. I wish it made him a bigger star, I miss the guy.
Well, yeah. Hard to have a movie about tornados if it was just chasers waiting around for tornados and then filming from a safe distance.
The important thing to take away from Twister is that if you are ever in an actual Tornado situation, you just need to lash yourself to a pump with a belt and you'll be fine.
The first trailer looked intriguing. But the more I hear about it the more it sounds like edgelord bullshit, especially since it's coming out during an election year. A24 is usually pretty solid, which is a shame. Too bad as Wagner Moura is an otherwise a great actor.
The amount of Jimmy Jeffs and Bobby Joes that think they should already be gunning down democrats is terrifying. I do not look forward to the next 1 to 5 years.
This is the kind of nostalgia I can absolutely get behind. A brilliant teaser-trailer that gives away nothing:
Two-part theatrical event, financed by, directed by and starring Kevin Costner, Part 2 release 7 weeks after Part 1.
The cast is pretty impressive. I am also interested to see how it brackets the Civil War. Apparently, it takes place over a 15-year period before and after the Civil War.
I don't know what your buddy was expecting going in that he'd turn it off partway through. It's not going to win any awards, but it was just fine. Doug Liman directed and he knows how to shoot action, so all the action things were fun, even if there was some goofiness. There needed to be more titties, but I was generally entertained.
