Here's the trailer for Fright Night. It doesn't look as bad as I thought, but it's still a remake (rarely a good sign) and doesn't appear to have the amazing special effects and make-up that made the first one so awesome. Instead it has McLovin as Evil Ed. We'll see.
Bridesmaids was very good. Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy in particular were fucking awesome. And the smart and funny script was actually written by women
So, the trailer is out and guess what? It looks like money-drenched Stephen Sommers-esque horseshit. Big surprise from the "rich man's Uwe Boll", Marcus goddman Nipsel. Yet another remake trampled into shit chowder. Strike three, let's hope.
From what I've gleaned from that trailer, - No Basil Poledouris: Strike One - Just from a trailer I can tell they've given Conan way *way* too much dialogue. Milius had enough sense to have his Conan say very little: Strike Two - And I'm just gonna call a preemptive Strike Three on there not being anywhere near enough boobies as was present in the first Conan flick. I'm giving the producers a free pass on not having Wilt Chamberlain, considering that the guy is dead.
I don't care what those idiots at Cannes think, The Beaver looks horrible- I was hesitant at first, as seeing a movie with Jodie Foster called "The Beaver" didn't sound too appetizing. It's described on Wikipedia as a comedy-drama. Comedy? After watching the trailer, I've laughed more at a Jeff Dunham routine. This might be the first drama involving hand puppets in the history of film. Probably for good reason.
The Tree of Life with Brad Pitt, Sean Penn. Directed by Terrence Malick. Some amazing images in this trailer, really interested in seeing this. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn out to be pretentious crap.
Not to stray too far afield, but I changed my opinions regarding Sean Penn after I saw him featured in this year's premiere episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. I thought he was a pretentious douche bag based on how the media had portrayed him, but after seeing that, I've got mad props. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/28/no-reservations-haiti-anthony-bourdain-sean-penn_n_829182.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/2 ... 29182.html</a> He seems more grounded than most of the Hollywood crowd.
I will watch anything Tarsem directs because his visuals are so incredible, even if the plot looks retarded.
Anyone else see the promo pic of Tom Hardy as Bane? My feeling on it is a solid "meh." I was way more excited for the first pic of the Joker for TDK. However Ive been a fan of Hardy since I saw RocknRolla, so I'm still pretty pumped for The Dark Knight Rises. If you haven't seen it: Spoiler
A prequel to Planet of the Apes with James Franco? The premise sounds sketchy, but it looks promising.
Now that I've seen this trailer, I actually do want to see this. It looks like old-fashioned, saturday matinee stuff.
I think technically it is a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, the third, and I think best, sequel to the original movie. I really hope they actually have the main Ape Ceaser able to talk and it's not make a CGI monster movie with apes using the Ape franchise. I don't know why I hope because you know itll be a CGI abortion. I loved the first films and after Tim Burtons abortion (Ca-Li-Ma? fucking really?) I hoped someone could have done it justice, but thats not how they work these days. Pump out an abortion and then "reboot" it a few years later with another abortion.
I'm always hesitant of unnecessary Hollywood remakes, but this trailer made me a little bit excited for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Maybe it will be okay.
As much as I didn't want this movie to get remade because the original was perfect in my eyes. I WILL see this movie, biggest reason is because david fincher is directing. The man who brought us fu led up movies like fight club and se7en to life. If anyone can stay true to the trilogy its him.
Judging on cast alone, this looks pretty promising. I'm excited to see Charlie from Always Sunny in something else, even though it looks like he's pretty much just being Charlie from Always Sunny. Jason Bateman is always good. And however old Jennifer Aniston is she has definitely still got it. Damn.
This looks like pretty good. If they stick ONLY to the premise and don't throw in a bunch of relationship stuff that bogs down all recent comedies... I can't believe Im thinking Colin Farrell looks like the funniest of the bunch. Maybe because one of my old bosses was just like him except for the balding loser look.
Usually I'd approach movies like this as throwaways that might be good for a few chuckles, but you hit it on the head. The casting alone makes this look better than most of the comedies that came out this year. And as Kublah said, if they stick to what they're promising in the trailer and it doesn't take itself seriously, it should deliver. Looking forward to this one.
Colin Ferrell can actually be really good sometimes. Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman and Charlie Day are all great ensemble guys who I wouldn't want to watch as a primary lead. If they can get the chemistry right, this could be a really entertaining movie. I'll probably wind up going to see it. Also, is that Glenn Howerton (aka Dennis) in the chair? Is it sad that I caught that?
