I know most people hate him, but I think it's entirely possible that Shia Labeouf can come out with a decent performance with this film. I haven't seen any trailers, but from the photos I've seen, he certainly looks like he can pull of that old-timey look, more so than other young actors his age, and more so than he tried to get the 50's look in Crystal Skull.

In any case, John Hillcoat and Nick Cave make a great team, going by The Proposition. I didn't really like Hillcoat's adaptation of The Road, but then, I didn't think it could have been translated from the novel any better. It worked because of the writing. And the rest of the cast is made up by some of my favourite actors (especially Guy Pearce).

This is a good film and worth watching, but it's not 'movie-of-the-year' material.

Russell Crowe is what Mel Gibson wishes he was = Cool. And Australian*

This looks rockin'. I'm on board.

*Aussies stopped wishing Gibson was theirs in the 00's. Besides, his father was American, and he only was Australian from 70's till the early 80's, thanks to our tax payer funded acting school...

** Crowe may have been born a sheep shagger,*** and that's what the rest of the world calls Australia, but he grew up here and that's what he is pretty much.

***New Zealanders to Australians, who view them the way the rest of the world views us...

List of upcoming sci/fi and fantasy movies that give me hope for good entertainment. I didn't know Ender's Game was being made, that could be exciting.

I think Orson Scott Card has been trying to get the book adapted into film for at least 15 years. It's awesome if he finally succeeded, but it's also one of those novels where I don't see anything the movie can offer that the book didn't already.

You know they are going to age the kids up to make it more believable and miss a big point of the entire story.

Scanned the list and I too am excited (and am mostly right about Ender's Game it seems).

I am currently on The Fall of Hyperion in the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons and in the hands of the right writers and director I think it could be a brilliant series of films (based on 1.5 books so far.) The mixture of Sci-Fi, fantasy, theology/philosophy, character development, are all just fascinating and we are at a point where the special effects could be done correctly.

The option is out there, but I don't think anybody has really moved the ball down the field from my limited research.

I will jizz in my pants if they make a snow crash movie, and send poisoned bitmaps full of brain destroying hate to the makers if they fuck it up. If they fuck up the casting of Hiro or YT, I will be screaming at the internet about it for months.

Ten bucks says they'd make Hiro half Asian half white. Also, I'm not sure it even COULD translate well into a movie, so much of the beauty of snow crash is stephenson's writing style, not what's actually going on.

I can see a way to get a movie out of it. I think the hardest part would be re-doing the time line. The internet wasn't a social phenomenon when the book was written - giving a premise for the movie based view of the internet to be an actual thing without being painfully stupid would be difficult, and I think they're unavoidably going to have to neuter the story line that established one of the major points of the story and the general level of awesomeness of Juanita. I've already seen several people suggest Vin Diesel as Raven. Mark Harmon I think would absolutely nail Uncle Enzo. Anthony Stewart Head as Lagos / The Librarian, although it's a shame that Christopher Lloyd is too old now. L. Bob Rife I always imagined as Ian McShane. Jordana Brewster as Juanita if she can pull off the reserved and chastizing parts of the role. YT is difficult, but I'd think Emma Watson breaking her typecast nerd and going skater punk could be awesome, especially with the super short hair she had going in a few shoots last year. I've seen several people suggest Chloe Moretz as YT, except the actress is barely 15 and one of the funniest scenes with Raven and YT would be weird with an actual jail bait actress. Hiro and Da5id are difficult ones though. Da5id I think Ryan Phillippe?

The best I can come up with for Hiro is Donald Glover - and as much as he'd nail the nerd parts, he's kind of baby faced and I don't know if he could pull off the badass elements. I've seen a few people suggest Pharrel Williams as well - I don't know if he can act, but he could pull off the nerd/baddass aesthetic at least.

I would LOVE Neil Patrick Harris to play Sushi K and Matt Damon to play Vitaly Chernobyl. The roles would only be cameo's for any sensible movie production. But they'd be awesome.

So they remade Judge Dredd. This pretty much barely looks interesting at all.

I feel like they've been working on this movie for 3 years. Looks like Queen Cersei is just going to be a cunt in every role now.

For some reason youtube isn't cooperating on my phone but the trailer for Jack Reacher came out a few days ago, what a fucking joke.

Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher? Complete with cheesy ass chase scene? I have read all the novels by Lee Child and I will not be watching this bullshit adaptation, Child must have signed over complete creative control. Terrible
