It isn't on Youtube yet, but I caught the preview of Rob Zombie's The Lords of Salem. It looks like a whole lot of awesome. And get this: it's bloodless. He's gone for a more straight up horror-mindfuck but it has neo-70's thumbprint ALL over it, and without gore. I guess we'll see. I'm hoping he also scratched on the absolute, non-stop profanity his films are usually laced with. Not that I don't think swearing is fucking awesome, but sometimes it's so bad in his films it feels like my ears are literally being poisoned.
I'm really looking forward to Killing Them Softly, I really enjoyed Andrew Dominik's Chopper and Assasination of Jesse James. This looks to have a touch more of Chopper's humour. Also I noticed Brad Pitt seems to have a bit of an east coast accent going, but I'm not so good with US accents, so you guys are in a better position to judge. Skyfall is looking promising. I love me some 007, and I had embarked on a marathon recently (if you call a movie every other night a 'marathon'), but I stalled it when I heard the series was coming to blu-ray. QoS left me a bit unfulfilled as a Bond fan; while I thought it had some decent moments, and wasn't *incompetently* made, I felt it traded up the "fun" aspect of the franchise for the grumpy seriousness of a Bourne movie, and just didn't fit. This trailer seems to indicate that despite some lauded names (Fiennes, Bardem, Mendes), it's not forgetting what made these films the escapist dreams they are. I love that moment where he straightens his jacket and adjusts his cufflinks after landing on the train, that seems to represent the Bond attitude I know and love. Here's hoping it's a good movie. On that note, Zowie Bowie, of Moon (B+), and Source Code (C+) fame is working on a biopic of Ian Fleming. If there was a place to stick your fractious and revisionist takes on Bond, this would be it. Plus Duncan Jones's other movies, for all their cleverness, didn't take themselve's overly seriously...
I am a horror movie snob, and 95% of the time NOT a fan of the "found footage" sub-genre. However, this movie looks sensationally scary. This is the first trailer I've seen in YEARS that truly made a movie look terrifying, and it's had some of the most notorious reviews since The Exorcist. It comes out on my birthday and I MUST see this.
I am not really familiar with the whole 'mumblecore' movement, but one of the V/H/S directors recently beat the hell out of a critic at some sort of event. The critic barely lasts a moment.
There's a great article in the 9/10 issue of The New Yorker about the Wachowskis and the development and making of Cloud Atlas. Since they've pretty much shunned living in the limelight, the article tells their interesting story of getting into the biz and their creative process as well as Lara's decision to stop being Larry. And beyond that, the article has me in great anticipation for 10/26 when the movie opens.
Movie 43 NWS "It's your HPV, Veronica, I'm just carrying it for you." And I'm sold. Reminds me of Kentucky Fried Movie. With Gerard Butler as... a fucking leprechaun. How did this get funding, let alone that cast?
How can there be a Die Hard 5 when 4 never happened? He died at the end of 3, tragically, after killing the bad guy. Lords of Salem finally has a trailer. I can't believe Rob Zombie filmed this. It's f'n gorgeous. Bad news is we have to wait until 2013. Stupid excited for it.
As much as I think Bruce Willis still has the swagger to pull off another great Die Hard. After the last one I don't think it'll happen. The writer for the new one did Xmen Origins Wolverine, by far the shittiest action film in the xmen series, as well as one of the worst of the past decade. He also did A Team another forgettable money grab. The director has done a couple of shitty remakes and a forgettable video game translation. Ill be downloading this one illegally.
Anyone going to see "Seven Psychopaths" this weekend? With that cast, I won't be able to stop myself...
