So basically it's going to be 2012 with zombies. I agree with others that the book would be an awkward direct translation, but if they made it a serious documentary / found footage type thing it would have been much better. My favorite part of the book was the shape of geopolitics because of what happened. hopefully they don't cut a lot of that out. And yeah, the fast zombies.
I expected fans of the book to be disappointed, but I never expect much from movie adaptations. In fact, I expect this movie will revolve around the two things you just mentioned... and that's it. I figured many of the other cool little stories would get pushed aside for the sexier concepts Brooks delved into with the book. I think the bright side of any potential movie injustices is that anyone not familiar with the book sees the film, grabs the book, shits their pants, and discovers an amazing take on an over-saturated genre. How many movies actually do the book they're based on 100% justice the way we'd all like? Just sit back and enjoy. It should be a fun ride.
Fast moving zombies completely bastardize the source material. How will this be any different than War of the Worlds follow a dad around protecting his kids. Awful.
I know the usual MO of this thread is to bring up movies that already have trailers out, but enough gamers here might be interested to know that the Castle Wolfenstein adaptation is back on. Roger Avary is once again all set to write and direct as he was before earlier. I don't know what to expect, I think Avary is solid though not to everyone's taste, but I'm glad it's not just any jumped up music video director being handed the keys.
You should expect the same results as every other videogame adaptation: Shit. Except Super Mario Brothers: The Movie. That movie was baus.
Rogar Avary is straight B movie. This could either be hilariously bad or just gave you ball cancer bad.
Allow me to present, not so much a defense, but a "let's not discount him yet" argument for Avary. 1. Super Mario Bros. was nothing but shit. Ignoring this obvious trolling attempt, it had three ok actors in it, none of whom had any idea how shitty the film they were in. Simple. You can throw all the post modern fan theories around that you like, it won't change the fact that it was just shit. B) Silent Hill is probably the purest videogame>film translation in terms of fidelity, despite the fact the *story* is wholly unique to the film (that is, the characters aren't who they are in any of the games). It's not a good film, even when using the same techniques it isn't as effective as the games, but in the scheme of things I think that deserves credit. Avary wrote not directed. C) Beowulf was actually a well written movie, and whatever success it has is in spite of Zemekis' retarded direction. It's no Beowulf and Grendel, or even The Thirteenth Warrior, but it works to make the old poem relatable and Neil Gaiman can't be responsible for all of the good writing. Avary Co-wrote. D) Killing Zoe; Standard early 90's indie fare: European worship and drugs on celluloid, in a limited setting. Avary wrote and directed. E) Rules of Attraction: Apparently divisive in its critical reception, but everyone I know, and Bret Easton Ellis, consider it a good adaptation. A lot of people would consider this pretentious, but otherwise it's a good flick, personal to both Ellis and Avary (who went to art college with both Michael Bay and Tarsem). Avary wrote and directed. F) Pulp Fiction: For a man who denied having anything important to do with Resevoir Dogs, he has taken credit for more of Tarantino's stuff that they both let on. He wrote "background radio dialogue" for Resevoir Dogs, barely any of it is discernable in the end resulting film. Despite this, apparently much of Pulp Fiction is derived from his writing, most of it regarding The Gold Watch episode, but also including the "divine intervention, RE: bullets" which was originally meant to feature Drexel Spivey, the pimp in True Romance. Kind of cool, though I wish he'd throw the original scipt out there... Avary co-wrote (and doesn't understand why he didnt get a co-screenplay credit). G) He's kind of one of us. As far as I know, he's a gen-x gamer, with a love of games beginning from the old 8-bit games, to lamenting having to wait to play the latest Black Ops game released just now. I mean, apart from having killed someone and spent jailtaime for their death, he's one of the lads... [In regards to my "cinematic awakening" when I was a teen, Roger Avary's name was considered the true genius behind Tarantino's genius, but as time goes on, Avary is the dude who has the most adapations to his name. All those who say Tarantino only does "pastiches," you get famous doing that, otherwise: fuck you.]
Look at this fucking cast for the upcoming "Ultimate Bad Taste" comedy called Movie 43 (a.k.a Redband) Halle Berry Elizabeth Banks Kristen Bell as Supergirl Jimmy Bennett Leslie Bibb as Wonder Woman Kate Bosworth as Arlene Gerard Butler as Shaun-Shaun Leprechaun Bobby Cannavale as Superman Kieran Culkin Josh Duhamel Jared Dudley[2] Anna Faris as Vanessa Richard Gere as Boss John Hodgman as The Penguin Terrence Howard Hugh Jackman Johnny Knoxville Martin Klebba as Killer Chaun Beth Littleford Justin Long as Robin Aasif Mandvi as Asif Jack McBrayer as Brian Stephen Merchant as Donald Christopher Mintz-Plasse Chloë Grace Moretz Chris Pratt as Jason Liev Schreiber Seann William Scott Tony Shalhoub J.B. Smoove Emma Stone as Ellen Malloy Jason Sudeikis as Batman Uma Thurman as Lois Lane Matt Walsh Patrick Warburton Naomi Watts Jeremy Allen White as Kevin Metzger Kate Winslet as Juliet Hulme By the way, I cannot fucking WAIT to see this flick. It looks funny beyond belief. Elizabeth Banks is a major chunk of the brains behind it.
I've seen this movie, it is awesomely funny. I'm guessing it took some time to release because the connecting story between the 15 shorts was super weak. But the shorts are fucking hilarious.
I think it's funniest gimmick is that Liev Scrieber and Naomi Watts play sadistic, abusive parents in it and are they married with two kids in real life.
I laughed hardest at terrence howard, "you're black" and the leprechaun bit I think, though the horrible parents bit is awesome. I saw it two years ago so my memory isn't perfect..
The more I see of this, the more I want to see it. GodDAMN DiCaprio is creepy-looking in this movie. The guy Foxx is talking to at 2:12 is the original Django, Franco Nero:
Yeah and you know what they aren't showing you in that action cut trailer is what's going to make it killer. Just think of the scenes like the Rat/Hawk scene in Inglorious Bastards that are waiting to blow your fucking mind.
Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs looks ridiculous. It just looks like someone dressed up in a Steve Jobs Halloween costume. They should have called Noah Wyle back. His portrayal in Pirates of Silicon Valley was fantastic.
Agree - I didn't even like Steve Jobs as Steve Jobs; I definitely don't feel compelled to see Kutcher. Why the heck doesn't this come out in March or something? The release date is June?!
Looks like there will be a Clerks III: http://www.nme.com/filmandtv/news/kevin ... iii/292952 I know that this will be a risk, but I can't help but be excited about it. I still love all six of Smith's "Jersey trilogy" movies, but I have mostly hated the other films that he has done. He didn't disappoint with Clerks II--in fact, I like it better than the first one--so hopefully he will come through again.
