I remember watching the first one in a crowded theatre, and in the scene where Will Smith punches the crashed alien and knocks him cold, the random guy next to me says out loud, "Oh, like he could really knock him out in one punch!" Really? That's where you drew the line? For a movie about an alien invasion, and a scene following a dogfight with an alien spaceship, THAT was where you stopped your suspension of disbelief?
Except he isnt directing this one, its directed by Justin Lin. The trailer looks kind of lame IMO. The music is weird for Star Trek, and a dirt bike? They should have just called it The Trek and the Furious.
Yeah, but Bad Robot is JJ's company. He's involved. I think the "Trek and the Furious" is EXACTLY what it's supposed to look like. Looks fun to me.
Star Trek is the last franchise that needs a F&F polish. A decade and a half late for a ds9 movie. Fuck.
As soon as I clicked play I said to myself, "I wonder how long until someone is hanging from a led..........Yep." Looks fun. As far as popcorn flicks go, the new Trek films are pretty dynamite in that regard.
So I'm guessing from the hole in the sky Krang's in this too. It's just that the last movie sucked so fucking much it may be impossible for it to redeem itself. At least they are finally paying homage to what actually made it famous: the cartoon show.
Cohen is awesome. And Mark Strong kind of makes me slide off the seat. He even has a porn name, but he's English so it's all dapper. "Who's the man who can get me pregnant without even waking me up?" "ME!"
This movie looks so good. The CGI on Spider-Man's costume doesn't look quite done, but the design looks pretty cool.
I'm sure it's just because I'm a fanboi, but I don't see it that way at all. Since pretty much the beginning of when Disney acquired Lucasfilm, they have openly stated the plan for additional "Star Wars story" movies, including the young Han Solo film and the Boba Fett film. I looked at it then as probably cheapening the franchise a bit, but an acceptable (imo) trade off to get Episodes VII, VIII and IX done right. This film looks much more interesting to me and much less of a cash grab than say, the 800 versions of the original trilogy Lucas released, or even the Clone Wars, comics, etc. did.
Totally agree. I'm actually quite amazed that they've got this one coming out in December, and I'd be quite OK with them doing two a year for the foreseeable future. When you look at the absolute shit that most movies are these days, I'd rather enjoy mediocre Star Wars content twice a year than all that other drivel. Bring it on.
