I really like JJ's work, and I know he's moved on to bigger and better things, but I wish he would go back and revisit the Cloverfield universe that he and Reeves created. There was/is sooooooo much potential there.
Totally agree. I just wonder how much politics is involved in that with IP ownership, etc... kind of like Whedon and Firefly... he'd love to do it, but no way the people who own it will let him.
So true. There was so much of that in the lead up to the release of that movie. Brilliant marketing strategy, and a great way to give the audience a taste of multiple story lines. But I definitely get what you're saying, if the owners of that property don't want to run with it, then it's dead in the water.
I'm really looking forward to that... but man, do I hate how they used Jump in the trailer... Panama? Yeah... that might have worked... but Jump is just too... soft. Probably my least favourite VH song.
It was the right song for that, though. Jump was their only #1 hit, I think. Any others in the top 10 were Van Hagar songs, which would've been a travesty.
I’m still surprised at how impressive the trailers are, and they make me want to see it. I was pretty sure it was a massive undertaking that couldn’t live up to the novel, but it looks like it’s gonna be good.
Hopefully this movie doesn’t ruin literally everything else. This story throws pop culture references in your face absolutely non-stop, including a Delorean from BTTF that has Kitt’s voice from Knight Rider. It’s a story that does whatever it wants.
Saw the trailer yesterday, looks amazing. The first one was a masterpiece. The only odd thing is bump firing the pistol, but maybe that’s meant to look like a random shooting / multiple shooters?
Yeah, it seems like they were trying to make it look “cool” for no reason, like when they used to use two .45’s back in the 90’s. Villeneauve didn’t direct this one but that guy works hard enough (Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Prisoners, Siccario, etc.). Still, it looks awesome.
My thought was “What is the point to all this?” I mean seriously.... McBride? Just bring Paul Hogan back, that role strictly belongs to him. The first movie was amazing. Still is.
Uh, because it's not an actual movie, just a tourism ad, and so it's funnier to have McBride's brashness?
They got me. I thought it was a dumb comedy. Although now there’s a huge petition going around for it to be made into a real movie. Call it The Machete Effect. Trailers that get turned into movies instead of vice-versa.
D and D set to ruin Star Wars after Game of Thrones wraps. Kathleen Kennedy’s quote slays me. https://www.yahoo.com/news/apos-game-thrones-showrunners-write-211300302.html
