I hope everyone is as excited as I am for "Scott Pilgrim VS The World"! http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/universal/scottpilgrimvstheworld/ Mostly I'm just happy about this beautiful creature... Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Oh yeah! Another movie headlined by Michael Cera, who continues to play the awkward, unfunny teenager well into his 20s. Can't fucking wait. So did you love Die Hard 4, the remake of Black Christmas, Tarantino's shitty "Death Proof" segment, and Final Destination 3? She's attractive alright, but that's no reason to sit through an awful movie, let alone pay for it.
Yeah, the roll is perfect for him. Since ya know the character is a slacker in his 20s. Well considering I think the movie will be good that's not an issue for me.
I meant "teenager" more in the sense that he is dumb, immature, annoying, and has nothing worthwhile to do or say. Which is exactly his role is in this film, too. Why is that? It's true that I've seen good films with hipster premises and actors/actresses I dislike (Adventureland comes to mind), but so far, you've only mentioned a hot girl. I watched the trailer, and while I would agree that the fundamental premise has real potential, the execution looked awful. All the jokes fell brutally flat, the acting from your hot girl was pathetic, and the fights were horribly choreographed. There was one amusing part; they used the announcer voice sample from Street Fighter Alpha 3. That's it. So why the hype?
This was made to try to convince WB to make a new Mortal Kombat movie. After seeing it, I kind of hope they do.
Transformers 3? I guess Michael Bay didn't do an unforgivably shitty enough job on part 2 (like has has with every single film he's been involved with in any way with except The Rock). Why couldn't this torpedo his career like everybody (including Jesus) wanted it to? I fucking can't stand this asshole. We GET it. You like blowing up vehicles in slow motion, and it shows. So did it John Woo, but he managed to make GOOD movies (until arriving in the States). Same goes double for Stephen Sommers, who sucks even worse (if that's possible). Deep Rising should not be the most sharply written and directed movie under your belt, yet these big budget hacks- and they ARE hacks- keep grinding out more retard wares for retards.
here's an interview with the director that goes more in depth about the direction he would take it if given the chance http://www.collider.com/2010/06/09/kevin-tancharoen-interview-mortal-kombat-rebirth-feature-film/ I like that he wants to keep the supernatural elements in, but keep it from being over the top so it has more of an impact. I really hope he gets to make this.
The Lone Ranger is due out next year. Johnny Depp will be playing Tonto, unknown to me of the other roles. Motley Crue's The Dirt also next year. Larry Charles directs, unknown cast.
IRONCLAD It's a sword movie, they should all be awesome. Most suck. I hope this doesn't. http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/ir ... ly-trailer
God that trailer sucked. It looked and sounded incredibly generic and run-of-the-mill, and made no sense. A woman fighting in the Knights Templar? (Nevermind that the actual historical battle of Rochester was fought by rebel barons) How would a mere 20 men would be able to man a castle? (The actual fighting force was around 100) Evidently, someone was a big Ridley Scott fan and decided to make a weird combination of Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, and Robin Hood. Maybe it turns out to be an amazing film and everything, but that trailer was far from encouraging.
Its the reason I haven't bothered with Robinhood, it's my favorite genre, apart from the fact almost every movie in it is pitiful. And WHY THE FUCK do all these movies have to have chicks bearing swords? It *practically never happened. *1/1,000,000 female soldiers v male means I can't say never. Another I have some small hope for. Eagle Of The Ninth http://teaser-trailer.com/2009/12/eagle ... movie.html
Yeah, thinking about it, there have been many garbage films in that genre. My favorite sword film is easily "Conan the Barbarian" (all-time great movie), but for the most part, it's a sad list. It's almost as annoying as "serious films that feature women fighting bare-handed". A woman from the 13th century wouldn't even possess the physical strength to swing such a gigantic blade, let alone have the skill to slay professional soldiers with it. Can't find the trailer at that url.
This is called "Bring Your Own Schmuck" in Canada, but could be very funny. It could also suck, so weed will be involved when I go see it. That French chick Rudd is dating is SEXY. THIS looks fucking awesome:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIU6RXkC6QQ Here is an old interview with Nikki Sixx. I would love to see a movie like this that is actually good. I have always wondered why they have never been able to capture something like this, I can't think of one film that is good that is based off a real band. I'm not sure why it is so difficult considering the content.
You liked Conan the Barbarian more than Braveheart or Gladiator? Maybe I'm missing the definition of "sword movies" then. I think I liked Clive Owens Arthur better than Conan, and I really liked Conan. I still prey to Crom and steel every night as a matter of fact. P.S, that trailer did look awful, I was bummed as well because I'm a big fan of James Purefoy. He played Marc Antony amazingly.
They could have swung the sword just fine, it’s a common misconception that Medieval swords were heavy. But the guys would be faster, stronger and had the benefit of training from a young age. Not to mention it was totally socially unacceptable for women to take up arms. Gladiator is the best of the three mentioned, Conan is still excellent for the time and I have a soft spot for Braveheart but it's historically speaking it's on par with Conan. (I own all 3) Hollywood just doesn't get armour or proper fencing technique and so never bothers to keep it realistic, instead going for over the top theatrics, for me fast, efficient and brutal always watches better in a movie. Think Taken but with swords. Check out a movie called ARN, I liked it and it and it has some excellent sword kills. It's a re-make of one of the funniest foreign films ever made, "The Dinner Game" from 1998. The source material is incredible, at the very least. A million times more. Gladiator was a good film, not great, and Braveheart was decent. Anyways, it doesn't really fit the focus of the topic, but PM me if you like. Is that so? I've always read they were enormously heavy, but then again, I've only held replicas of slightly older swords, beginning with the 15th century.
