I know a few of these guys, and I feel the same way as you do about them. But this is only about 5% of farmers (around here anyway, it may be different down there), the rest usually keep their fucking mouths shut. The problem is that these guys are the only ones you ever hear. Grain farmers are doing really good right now, and a lot of them are forgetting how fast the bottom can fall out of this thing. As soon as the weather patterns straighten out and the whole country has a good crop, prices will hit the floor and you'll see a lot of big grain operations go tits up. I'm actually looking forward to it.

I grew up in Vermont, between farms with family friends owning/operating farms. Mostly dairy where we were at, and most of them really WERE dirt poor and working their asses off to scrape by. There doesn't seem to be a lot of money in it unless the operation is gigantic.

One of my good friends I met when I first moved to Chicago was from Monroe, LA and his dad was a farmer. And when I met him he had on some Ducks Unlimited gear and Eddie Bauer stuff, looked kind of well polished, but salt of the earth. Well their "farm" had close to 50 employees, thousands of acres and his dad cleared well over 7 figures a year and was the CEO of a mid sized company more than a farmer. I also met his at his hotel where he was staying...at the Four Seasons. But I definitely knew a few kids in HS who grew up on dairy farms and one of my relatives married the son of a soybean farmer from downstate Illinois and none of those people were anywhere north of middle class at best.

So apparently one of my wife's friend's husbands just got out of jail, and the he managed to get into her facebook account and posted naked pictures of her. I feel really bad for her, but man, she looks good naked.

I am such a bad person.

It depends where you live. Farmers around here are not poor, they are middle class and up. They also do things like take subsidies (aka "bribes") from the government NOT to grow tobacco, then they take the taxpayers money and grow it anyway, since nobody ever checks on them.

I respect agriculture and its importance, but that is some bullshit right there.

I've actually found the floating body, but it was in Nantucket Sound and not the ocean. The rest unfortunately was a bust. No cocaine, no hungry fish, and one arm came off while we were trying to get the body on the boat. Good times.

Interesting. So, if someone had posted in the suggestion thread "Tell Your Found Dead Bodies Stories," then at least two regular posters would've been able to comment. This place delivers.

Me and my dad saw a crashed motorcyclist get decapitated by a Hotwire when I was a kid. So I guess we "found" that dead body. And more blood than you can possibly imagine.

You are a better person than I am, I would have put a marker on them got a bearing on the drift and called the Coast Guard with the numbers.

My father in law is a farmer and is probably the hardest working sob that I know. He's getting close to 60 and, except for the harvest, runs the entire farm by himself. He has beans, corn and wheat planted over 1,000 acres and has a catfish farm with a dozen ponds. He works sun up til sundown, except on Sundays, and has to go check on the fish ponds multiple times at night. He does all of his own equipment repair, if he has the tools and knowledge to do it.

The only subsidy/benefit that I know he gets, is he's paid to farm his land using the no till method.

He's not poor by any means but you would never know it.

It would be funny to put a dog on a leash, fasten the detached arm to the loop end of the leash then send the dog running down a busy sidewalk.

I was a volunteer fireman, before I moved, and we pulled two people out of a trailer that had been shot in the chest and set on fire.

That's just wrong. Those people's most prized possession was that ice chest. To shoot it like that shows such disregard for all that is sacred.

Please tell me they died before the fire. You can tell by the looks on their face. Otherwise....... Yeesh. As far as being gross is concerned, Google has nothing on old-fashioned investigative photos.

Ever seen what a drug mule's insides look like when his package opens in his body? You don't want to.

Trust me, it was not one of my favorite moments. I was eighteen and working as a boatswains second mate on a ferry, the captain saw something in the water and he went to check it out. I guess he thought it was just some debris in the water and thought it would be a good time for a man overboard drill. To be honest I didn't even know it was a body until I was half way down the ladder and about to grab it. The captain had us haul it on board into the luggage room and the Coast Guard, coroner, and a litany of other officials met us at the dock in Hyannis. Needless to say our third trip that day was cancelled.
