Not worth it's own thread any more due to lack of interest, but I'm really looking forward to the 24 Hours of Daytona that goes off this weekend. IMSA is doing a better and better job broadcasting stuff on YouTube... they're doing a bunch of 5 minute tech spotlights this week and it's pretty interesting.
I've got a few prior commitments this weekend but I'm going to try to watch as much of it as possible. I wish they would let them do the Garage 56 NASCAR program thing they did at Le Mans last year... seems only fitting to do it at Daytona of all places. I don't really have a vested interest in any particular driver or team, but I kind of root for the Vasser Sullivan Lexus team, only because I bought a used Lexus SUV several years ago.
I'm sure they're getting close to doing that... IMSA got bought by NASCAR, after all, so it's the same tech group running the show, both on track and behind the scenes.
I did not know that. I don't follow auto racing as much as I used to, though I am normally up and awake on most days Formula 1 is on. Going to see if I can commit to it more this year. I love pretty much all things with a motor that goes fast... the smells and sounds from a race are like nothing else, and I am trying to plan a trip to see F1 at COTA in the next year or the next. ETA: didn't even watch that first video you posted, seeing it's the Lexus Team now, lol
On a different note, a group of homeowners have sued Monterey County to close the race track at Laguna Seca. Nevermind that the race track has been at its site since 1957 and the area built up around it. Nevermind that the track is a economic power in the County. Nevermind that the track is actually a County Park.
Read that a couple days ago... and it pisses me off. I really hope they get told to go fuck themselves.
After many many many years of fighting, Sacramento Raceway (drag strip) closed down recently. Too many people bitching about the noise and traffic. Um, maybe don't buy a house near a race track?
I live a couple of hours from Laguna Seca and am planning on going to some County meetings to voice my opinion. I do not see how they can shut the track down as it is a huge economic engine for the area, but they certainly can fuck things up by adding more restrictions.
I can't see them shutting Laguna Seca down. So many corporate sponsors and pretty iconic. Sac Raceway was more of a "locals" track. Track wasn't nice enough and didn't have the infrastructure for the likes of NHRA type events.
Awesome! I can't see how they could shut down such an iconic track. As was mentioned, it's been around forever. Then again, I thought the same about Riverside in California so many years ago.
So I'm gearing up for the spring bazaar. My niece is a graphic designer (who actually recently won a contest at work for her logo design) and I'm hiring her to create my logo. I had some very basic parameters and no real idea of what I want it to look like so I am excited to see what she comes up with.
I'm guessing that Cartoon Network/Adult Swim doesn't take to kindly to others using their intellectual property for other's profit?
I got to Riverside once near its end. The difference between the tracks is Riverside was built in the 1950s as a way to make some money while waiting for urban sprawl to get out there. As such that track was never developed anymore than needed to get to host events. It was always pretty primative. Laguna Seca just had 13 million dollars spent to repave the track and update some spectator bridges amongst other items. In some ways the Track is a barrier stopping further sprawl toward Salinas. Who knows maybe that is what the lawsuit is really all about. Open up land for development and yet another golf course or two. Laguna Seca at the moment hosts all kinds of events all year long, bicycle and running races, there is the only gun range in the county located on the track, The track holds track days for motorcycles and automobiles. Fuck I am babbling.
My niece mentioned including soap bubbles as a design element. If you had your way, it would just all be titties. Maybe she can add little nipples to all the bubbles and make everybody happy.
