Went to the local redneck race track for the first time in almost 50 years. Like the last time I was there, I was 7. It was a blast! 5 hours of racing. 3 classes, tons of qualifying, then 2 25 lap races, and a 75 lap feature of some late models. Crazy power, pretty exciting racing. Not a bad way to spend a Friday night.
I was there last Friday, my work sponsors three cars there. They had their “worst crash in years” that night, a car smashed the flag stand and pancaked on another car:
A few years ago, I was visiting my dad in Maine, and he wanted to check out a local track just to know where it was and what it was like. It was an off day, and when we drove up we were met by “security” riding up on a Gator. The guy was super nice, lived right beside the track and told us all the details. The cherry on top was that he said we could drive the track before we left. My dad was ecstatic.
Fun fact: the jet I flew on, the mission system software was Linux. The reason? Microsoft wanted over $1 million per tail.
Half hour bc at least. The drive in the flipped car on top was stuck in it so the tow truck driver just yanked him off as I safely as possible. His girl was SCREAMING from the pit while his crew chief smashed his headset. Thos was also the first time my daughter and I EVER watched a race there. Now she wants more. I told her “Our trailer is like, five minutes from the Grand Bend Motorplex. If you want loud, I’ll show you LOUD.”
The NHRA nitro cars there are fucking insane. Whole other level. I follow Clay Millican’s youtube channel… very informative and entertaining.
I think everyone should go see them. It's one of those things you can't explain to someone just how fast and loud they are.
Absolutely. Watching them rebuild an engine between runs and doing the test run is incredible. It’s almost like an Olympic event, and makes a Nascar pit crew look like a bunch of amateurs. The chaotic coordination is mesmerizing.
