@toytoy88 Sorry to hear about your job, man. Severance package or not, that still sucks. Sounds like the ship was going down anyway, I guess?
Thanks. Man, I just don't know. I have a feeling my department will probably be gone in a few months, so at least I get a head start and a healthy severance (Which basically absolves them of all wrong doing and releases them from all liability....which tells me they know they've done something pretty fucked up to quite a few long time employees,) I thought about getting a lawyer and going after them with an age discrimination suit, but decided I didn't want some long drawn out ordeal. I 'm just going to chill for a week or two and then get another job before I go stir crazy. The boss that originally hired me is with another non-competing company (Another severance stipulation) and I'm sure they'll jump at the chance to hire me.
In the meantime, you can grow out a sweet mullet, start retraining your fingers to shred out some tasty riffs, and work on the flame paint job for your new car.
Depending on what % of your salary your severance is, I would just walk away. Fighting them in court could mean they fight you on your severance and come at you for their legal fees. It stings and you want to fuck with them, but take your own advice and just take a week to decompress. As soon as you find another gig you wont really give a shit.
Yeah, that's my plan. I hit the highly pissed off stage last night, but it's dissipating now. Now it's back to just feeling the gut punch and an enormous sense of betrayal. I've been through corporate shake ups before that went much, much worse...coming up with complete bullshit reasons to fire large numbers of people with no severance. I'm also getting all my vacation paid and my 2018 end of year bonus, so yeah....it could've been much worse.
I hear ya. It sucks, but major stakeholders in a company rarely give a shit about the employees, particularly if it means they are going to get a pay-day from a buyout, etc. This includes HR. They are not there to protect employees, they are there to protect the health and wellness of the company, no matter what they say.
If it helps, look on the bright side. I've been fired a couple times. Once for somewhat understandable reasons, and once for reasons that were total horseshit. Getting fired is never fun, but if it's a shitty company you'll be better off for it in the long run. Companies that lay people off like a turnstyle or fire employees over frivolous bullshit isn't one that you want to work for anyway. There's a pretty decent chance that within a couple months you'll be glad you aren't still working there. /glass half full
I'm a bit late, but I also got the email. In other news, I've also been catching up with my long lost cousin in Nigeria who wants to immediately deposit my well deserved estate money into my bank account, and I can now achieve a stronger sex life. Good thing I checked my spam folder.
Pushing the obvious shiftiness aside, does this also mean you’re leaving the place you hate or at least trying?
By that, you mean he could still stab you while sleeping. That’s what sociopaths do. I’m surprised you’re not already looking for work back in ol’ Miss.
I got the email in the spam folder. After I got the virus cleared out, I came here. Toytoy, I feel for ya, man. The exact same thing happened to me 15 years ago. When you first mentioned your suspicions in the R&R thread, I was thinking of making a post in the "Visualized" thread, but I couldn't figure out what it should be ( what image defines paranoid?), and I also thought "What if he's right?" Well, here we are. Are you going to stay in Vegas? You hate it there.
Are you offering him a spot on your couch and a chance to start over (together)? Join us Tuesdays to see what the idiots are into this time! Find out next week......who got shot! Somebody hotwired a car, tune in now to find out what secret message they drove in the cornfield! Boy now, that's some weird TiB fanfic.
This is going to be the Netflix produced Dukes of Hazzard reboot we've all been waiting for. Would this make SheGirl Boss Hogg or Sherriff Roscoe P Coltrane?
I've got to stay where the money is for a few more years. As much as I'd rather be living in Bum Fuck, Nowhere...it's kind of hard to make a living there.
