So Kansas's appeal is not being Nevada. I think it says that on the license plates. "Kansas: not Nevada"
That would pretty much be it. Years ago I would've cringed at the thought of living on the plains, I'm used to the huge mountains and trees I grew up with. To live up there now would require about $1M+ for a place similar to the one in KS and the place in MN would be about $5-8M....if you could find an intact section of land.
I know it has the best natural soil in the world but goddamn. That is too much cash to live amongst people that ass-backwards. Isn't ballsack from there?
Why is this not called the Hurricane Ida thread? I'm biased, but....Goddamn it. This storm is already off to a good start: "we're not evacuating, because we don't have enough time to prepare for evacuations". New Orleans: "So, we're evacuating? Hahaha, fuck y'all." Also, the new girl is awesome, but sucks at giving gifts. For my birthday, she got us tickets to see a symphony orchestra perform the soundtrack to.....the Princess Bride, a movie she doesn't give a fuck about and I have only seen once. In an outdoor amphitheatre. In August. With no one around us in masks, during the shittiest phase of this pandemic. I told her I don't do crowds, and have serious anxiety about being around that many people. So, on the way, she asked me to retell her stories from the dozen or so riots I've been in over the years.... Mediterranean chicken salad was tits though.
This is me. And it's why I'm perfectly okay with the social distancing in the pandemic. My ears have been fucked up since brain surgery, and then my hearing went completely haywire after covid. Being in a large group of people, with loud noise that seems to not have an origin point (like, say, the stock show and rodeo), is a recipe for me getting the fuck out of dodge in a hurry. How are you doing with Irma? Figured you'd be stressed out and hunkered down for Katrina Part Two: Covidcane
Haven’t you already bought land in other states though? Get off the pot, man, and move already. If you wanna get out of Nevada, fuckin’ get out. Kansas is flat and boring as fuck, though, overall. But since we moved to Nebraska, I’m enjoying the good life. No problem with the Midwest for me.
Sorry bro. Give me thread ideas on Thursday. I didn't really know about this hurricane til Friday evening from my mom. I have a sis in TX, a sis in LA, and parents in AL so somebody's always in th path of a hurricane.
There's a hurricane? Here I am sitting in 85% humidity with a humidex of 104°F, sweating my balls off... had no idea other parts of the world were getting weather. The only good part is that it makes the bug zapper WAY jucier, and makes bourbon sours go down that much better. Seriously, I'm trying to stop my intake of MSM news... I hope all of you stay safe!
this one certainly has the potential to be worse than Katrina. People are just not evacuating this time. And it’s supposed to be stronger, and move slower. And hit the same damn spot. everyone I know who lives down there has gone to Houston and a few surrounding areas. They have a bunch of friends who are staying though. hope those levees hold
Also the Princess Bride is a great movie, but it's not like the soundtrack is anything particularly special. Go see John Williams at the Hollywood Bowl and get fifty years of absolute bangers.
y'all this hurricane is looking like a fucking beast. The eye is getting super organized, it's growing, and it still has a bunch of warm water (fuel) ahead of it. Oh, and it's like a heat seeking missile for New Orleans
it has to be a good thing that this is making landfall during the day right? Thing is so massive I'm more worried about the extensive power outages during all this heat and humidity and... oh yeah.... a goddamn pandemic!!
Yeah, lower Louisiana is going to be a shit show. I like this article because they give updates periodically to the same page. Looks like Hurricane Ida is a cat 5. For reference Katrina was a 3. https://abcnews.go.com/US/live-updates/?id=79696173 My sister in Louisiana lives near Lafayette so they are going to see a lot of rain. I think they usually go to my brother in law's office which has a walk in safe during the worst of it, then come home to survey damage. Their house flooded a couple years ago and they made some changes to prevent that from happening again. I wish them luck. To be completely honest, the increasing intensity and frequency of these storms was one reason we did want to buy a house on the coastline. Even if your house is largely fine they are a pain in the ass.
Spoiler: IDA That blue dot is only a 5 minute drive from me. And we are compelled to ride this out at home - don't want to go anywhere and give anyone The 'Rona. At this exact moment, it's not even raining and there's no wind. But the shit is supposed to get kicked off in a couple of hours and carry on through until the middle of the night. Grand Isle (which ALWAYS gets hammered - I'm not even sure how it's still there after all these years) is already reporting 100 mph sustained winds. I'll try to keep updating as long as we have an internet or cell connection.
Compared to Katrina, one thing that hasn't changed in 16 years . . . Stephanie Abrams is still gorgeous.
