The worst part so far of my dog going deaf is that he doesn't hear me yell at him when he is scooting his asshole on the carpet.
Any of y'all ever do skygazing? Based on this: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/rp8usc/whats_something_everyone_should_experience_in/ I'm thinking of going to Cherry Springs PA, with all the telescope $100 and Amazon Prime can get me. Suggestions?
No suggestion on the telescope, but if you can get out in the country and away from light pollution, the night sky is fuckin’ wild. Do it!
I have a 750x telescope that you can see Saturn with as well as the Orion Nebula which has to be seen to believed.
I do, but not as much lately since the fire station down the road not only put in a giant lighted sign but also added a shit ton of lighting as a deterrent to break ins. It really caused a lot of light pollution here in our part of the countryside, but no use bitching about it. I look forward to getting to the Adirondacks or somewhere there isn't as much light someday soon. As @NatCH said, it's pretty awesome.
There is still light pollution here in my small town in rural east Oregon but it's significantly less than the gulf coast and I'm amazed at the things I can see while hanging out on the deck. There are SO many drones, too...
Great Basin National Park on the East side of Nevada is the place to go for sky gazing. There is no light pollution there and it has the second tallest Mountain in Nevada at 11000 plus feet to get you above whatever haze there actually may be. The park is free to get in and less than $20 to camp overnight. The wife and I use it as a last night of vacation whenever possible as it is only a days drive from our home. It is very cold there at this time so fair warning.
I, apparently, live near a designated dark sky park in southern Virginia, and I've thought about getting a good telescope. Even our sky seems disappointing after seeing the sky from an unlit sailboat 650ish miles from any land or light pollution source.
Not intentionally, but I was driving through Northern Arizona at night when I looked up through the moonroof. I pulled over to the side of the road, got out, and told my brother "look up". Clearest sky I've ever seen and you could see the whole Milky Way splashed across the black background.
fireworks have doubled in cost this year. My plan to blow a crater in the ground just got a large wrench thrown into it.
I’m in northwestern NJ, so there’s no escaping the light pollution. But there are still some areas up here where I can make out the Milky Way, spot some of the more well known stars and constellations, see satellites zipping overhead and watch meteors. Ive been able to view a bit through other’s telescopes but never bought one myself. But I love stargazing with the naked eye.
Surely you must have things you can turn into explosives? No gas cans, propane tanks, black powder, spray cans, etc? How hard is it to get tannerite down there?
I've had a very injury-filled year and I still have yet to run my new chainsaw. I was hoping to procure a large amount of fireworks, but I think I have some leftover from years past which I'm sure are still completely safe despite questionable storage conditions
We have some lovely snow coming down today. Big, fluffy flakes. It's not the first snow of the year but it's the prettiest so far.
